Northwood v Slough

Recommended Posts

5-1 win according to Twitter updates, with goals from Swift, Sonner x2, Burnell and Martin.

A goal down early then their keeper (Parkin) went off injured at 1-0.

Good win for us, I didn't go so can't make a judgement on the performance.

decent performance. we wasn't immense or anything but i would say worthy winners

Northwood scored after a shocking mistake by Seeby who tried to see out a long ball for a goal kick and let the striker get round him to cross to a guy totally unmarked

Parkin going off was a big blow for Northwood as their defender had to go into goal. Swift free kick he didn't seem to see (most of us couldn't see much especially by the end due to the fog) and a good headed goal from Sonner put us 2-1 up at half time

with a defender in goal was always going to be hard for Northwood in terms of not conceding but they didn't worry us too much in attack. a few quick attacks made us like normal look shaky but Slough always in control once going ahead

3rd goal may have been a stand in keeper own goal though Burnell got to it on the line

Sonners "2nd" i think may well have been an own goal as well

Martin scored going clear and rounding the keeper

overall good win but you could argue at 1-0 down till Parkin went off a 5-1 win seemed impossible although i think we would still have won even with Parkin in goal

When Northwood scored early on, I had a sense of deja yu. I thought it was going to be one of those bad Tuesday nights again. However, I thought,

no WR, banish those NEGATIVE thoughts and indeed my POSITIVITY returned (probably due to a couple of pints earlier on). Once we got it back to 2-1

there was always going to be one winner, and indeed it could have been more than 5-1. My main concern was that the ref might abandon it due to

the hideous fog, but thankfully it got completed. Roll on Saturday

Good, all round team performance after going a goal down early on.

Northwood's forwards looked lively early on and caused us a few problems but as the game wore on they seemed to become less effective.

We started the second half on the front foot and continued to dominate until the final whistle and really should have scored a few more against a very dejected Northwood.

As we know Saturday's game will be a lot tougher but the team will be pumped up for it and if we play to the best of our ability I think we have nothing to fear.

what i don't really understand is how we seem to pressure the opponents more all over the pitch when away compared to playing at home. surely this pressure should be there all the time causing errors and eventually creating more space from ourselves after unsettling them

on a different note the Northwood programme was one of the better ones even if it was a joint one for our game and their last game

Last night was not a true measure of our position due to the weather, Parky getting injured and a ref who made decisions based on what the crowd told him to do!

Although this moved us up to 4th it is not a true reflection of the leauge due to so many other teams having games in hand.

Saturdays game will be a measure of if we can step up our performance against a well organised and motivated yeam.

If one side wasn't so comfortably in front, I have no doubt at all that the game would have been abandoned in the second half. In the end it was very hard to see and indeed I'm told two of our goals were actually own goals - not that Burnell and Sonner will mind!

I know I am showing my ignorance here but If the game had off been called off, say in the 80th minute, would that mean we would just replay and start from scratch at a future date.

No sexist answers please, remember what happened to Andy Gray and Richard Keys!!

It all seems to depend on who you are, what is riding on the game and if you are winning or losing !!!

FiFA rule states : An abandoned match is replayed unless the competition rules provide otherwise.

In most cases if a large percentage, over 75% has been played the result stands.

Last season a match was abandoned at 88 minutes, but beacuse the league title was at stake, the game was replayed !!!

It's not at all black and white
