1892 - 2011

Well I few days have passed since the news has been made public that we are to be longer in this guise, a great shame for all involved as has been said and echoed around.

I only got involved in non-league football following a WIndsor pre-season friendly with QPR and since that date I was hooked. It is a shame that I only got to support Windsor for the last three seasons when I have moved to to the town in 2005.

Just wanted to know what each of your personal highlights were from 1892 to 2011. Some will hold more than others, but each will be a fond memory...

For me, my highlights have to be...

  • A drunken away day at Gosport (16/08/2008) with a drunken fan nicking the drink of the Gosport keeper. The first of many for me!
  • Windsor 6 - 2 Slough in the (14/10/2008) a hell of a display with a fantastic strike from Paul Coyne into the town end net from way out.
  • Burnham 0 - 5 Windsor (01/11/2008) four from Michael Chennells and a great free kick from Paul Coyne from just in front of the Burnham supporter who took to slagging him off all game! A very wet pitch as it poured with rain for 90 minutes.
  • Windsor 8 - 1 Chesham (20/01/2009) in the Berks and Bucks Quarter Final. A great display by WIndsor fused with a poor performance from Chesham resulting in the Chesham chairman refunding all the travelling supporters with their gate fee.
  • Windsor 2 - 1 MK Dons (18/07/2009) in pre season friendly, not for the result but for the away supporters embracing the non-league game and joining the Windsor fans behind the goal.
  • Windsor 1 - 0 AFC Totton (05/12/2009) A great goal from Victor Osobu against Totton into the park end net, the deciding goal of the hard fought game, made only sweeter by the pre match comments from the Totton manager who claimed Osobu was no good!
  • The introduction of Scotty the Stag during the six nil thumping of Bracknell Town (12/12/2009).

I would like to add the Berks and Bucks Cup Final game and the VTFC game that won the league but unfortunately I was on holiday for both. Missing the latter game only because the season was extended due to snow that year!!!!!! Still I heard all about them...

So there are mine in such a short non-league time, what are yours?

For me the two games against Bournemouth in the early 80s was a real highlight. We were so unlucky in the home game which ended 0-0 with the fact we already knew we had drawn Man Utd in the next round making it all the more frustrating. And then the replay where we outplayed them for long periods before losing 2-0. Harry Redknapp said afterwards that we gave them a harder game than Man Utd did in the next round. Last seasons last game against VTFC was also a brilliant night just a pity we couldnt get those sort of crowds at all games.

well where to start!! in the 13 or so seasons ive watched windsor a few moments spring to mind,

staines town 1 wefc 3, morgaro gomis scoring that 35/40 yarder, one of the best goals i consider to have seen watching windsor

away at northwood, lee randall coming on as a sub after being told by dennis greene to do a job on yaku, to then take him out, be sent off and tell dennis greene that he "did what you asked me" when walking off the pitch again!!

2-1 away at lewes, and charging down the grass bank, even if that season did all go wrong!! and the 6-2 defeat when we prevented them getting promoted

seeing every minute of the 17 game end of season run when we got promoted, including some freezing nights here there and everywhere

aylesbury in the trophy, fantastic football and a dave carroll master class!

chatham away in the cup, with woody throwing a junior scott into a bin, brilliant!!

uxbridge away, the game that still gives me nightmares...tony boot and 3-nil up.... most people know the rest of the story....

afc wimbledon away, with the soccer am crew (when it was good and lovejoy did it) brilliant day all round!!

jon case dressed in a corset coming back for the isle of wight, still don't know why!!

spencer walsh breaking the net at eastbourne in the 90th something minute when the ball was about an inch out!!

i've got a lot of memories from my time supporting windsor and ive had the priviledge of seeing some truly great players across the years! i hope that in whatever guise the club returns under, that many more fantastic memories will come as a result of it!!

Too many to mention and too many i cant clearly remember!! Not the game or winning but the journey there dispite a massive hangover that led to me getting a lift home. Started well with a good 15 of us running from the Windsor train to one heading into London nearly taking out everyone else on the platform. Later in the day, Dazza, Mrs Cat and myself finding something so funny we could hardly speak for a good 5 mins!

A number of ballboys memorys overlap with mine. Lewes away was my first long distance away game and that charge down the bank was like something out of Braveheart! Abingdon away, Taunton away, Newport IOW away, Truro away ( both times! That video taken on the train back whilst very un-pc is very very funny) East Thurrock and Margate away (dispite them both being called off) Mangotsfield away and my one and only competitive darts match.

On the pitch the 6-2 against Slough. Even taking away the derby element it was something else some world class goals from Coyne and Ben Porter.

Lets hope for many more memories in the future for future generations.

How could I forget, the trip to Lands End, via Truro City, well the train station as we heard the game was called off just before arriving in Truro. A group decision to remain on the train to Lands End for the photograph, something to eat, to buy a puppet and stock up on cider, beer, ale and what ever else would make the following day so painfully long with a hangover...

Far too many memories to list them all. We've had some great laughs over the years particularly on the away days. If somebody wrote a book detailing our exploits people would read it and say "nah surely they're making that up".

Getting boozed up on away days in my earlier years even though I was under 18 and looked about 9.

Bridport away stands out. Somehow getting to Bridport by 11am via trains, buses and taxis. Only to find it was a sleepy town with no pubs open till midday! Then Keith Boreham scoring a late equaliser followed by Ian thinking it was the winner running on the pitch and jumping on him even though he was lying injured on the floor shouting out in pain!

Lewis away. Realising at 10:30pm whilst on Brighton pier that we still had to get the train home and waking up the next morning still in my cloths with my jeans ripped to shreds and my legs covered in blood as a result of climbing the fence and running down that bank at the game.

Woody running into the post on the train on the way back from Oxford. Also the impromptu bundle on the station and the bubbly bar.

Taunton away. Too many incidents to mention.

Margate away "at least he's not *****"

East Thurrock away with the impromptu Circle line pub crawl.

Truro away, getting to lands end and finding the bar shut for refurbishments!

There were some great times on the pitch too……

The whole of the 95/96 season.

That great run at the end of the 00/01 season.

Most of 03/04 season (especially Lewis away)

6-2 against Slough (the score line doesn’t do it justice as it really was a hell of a beating)

Last Season.

This Season (especially Tiverton away)

Too many good & bad memories to list over the many years but one memory that always makes me giggle,is when we went to Welwyn garden City in the good old FA vase, the postie & I were late getting there because of a bit of misguided ground hopping,we found Stevenages ground in error, however when we got there I can remember their manager who's that effing pouf with the bleach blonde hair on the bench,he looks a right load of crap,at half time on came Denis Greene & promptly scored a hat trick & told their manager I am Denis Greene remember me.

What can i say 35 years of memories, all of the above plus travelling to Whickham (newcastle) in the FA Vase Semi 2nd leg full of hope and boyish enthusiasm and optimism only to lose to the biggest bunch of thuggish cheats I have ever seen!!! Burton Albion away when Trevor Baron scored the winner to put us in the FA Cup 2nd round, being in the clubhouse with players on the Sunday and being drawn against Man Utd in the 3rd round(think teh celebrations you recently saw when Crawley drew them, sigh...), all we have to do is beat Bournemouth, the rest of that story doesn't need telling, the B&B Cup final that was scheduled for Stag Meadow until we got to the final and all singing "you can stick you f*****g venue up your ar$e" as we stormed to 3 nil at half time thank you Mr Banton. lets see Wimbledon, Brentford, Bournemouth, Gillingham, Bournemouth (mentioned it twice as it was so good) Torquay, Woking with Windsor not capitulating easily until Derek Walters.....still got the midweek sports special (or whatever it was) tappe somewhere.

Frilly celebrating by vaulting the barrier running up the grass bank, behind the fans and back onto the pitch (probably get a life ban from FIFA for that these days) when he pulled his shorts down to moon the fans at the near post before scoring a header, Gordon jumping into the hay. One of my faves was Dog at a ressies match; we scored a goal so he ran onto the pitch, took the ball out of the net, rounded the keeper and slammed it back into said net, genius!!

....And Humpty being totally taken out by a stationary plastic pint cup, somebody please explain how that is even possible!!!!

Wayne [****!!****]lin, say no more...

My dad 1st bought me down 30+ years ago, I've seen FA vase semi finals, league & cup doubles, a two page spread in the sun on how the wefc players matched up to man utd players ( bob king, anyone !!), some amazing comebacks (Folkestone, away) some right disasters (Wycombe 12-1, the comeback started too late)

The club may have gone but the memories and friends remain

My first full season watching Windsor was the 1999-2000 season.

So here is food for thought...

In that time I reckon I've been to 90% of the 740 games played since then (ironically that works out as 666 games doh.gif )

I've seen 59990 mins of football (not including extra time .. in my minds eye most of them seem to be a cold February night)

I've walked 87 miles just changing ends at half time (I'm sure must the FA owe me a new pair of shoes).

Worked on the turnstiles 2 times.

Taken over 8000 photographs.

I've eaten 19.2kg of beef in burgers from non-league food huts (based on the rather naive assumption they are all quarter pounders and 100& beef)!

I've drunk 200lt of tea.

1332 pints of beer or 167 gallons and that is assuming I had only one at HT and one at FT.. I recall 3 of them were even a decent pint...

I've passed 333Lt of urine down non-league toilets (and 0 poo's I hasten to add)...

I've seen Humpty fall over 3 times and Malc 1

I've witnessed the standing area being cleared out due to a noxious smell someone has produced on 9 occasions I can remember . The worst being Hampton and Richmond away when Jez generated an odour that still haunts me in my sleep....it was bad... I mean really bad... like the love child produced in a liaison between a bag of rotting vegetables and a skunk... which has then been set fire too... and someone has tried to put it out by shovelling poo on it... I think I need counselling ........

I've seen promotion, relegation success and failure. I've made some fantastic friends who I hope I'll know for a long time to come..

My saddest moment in all that time was watching the lights get turned out for the last time. So I'd like to say goodnight and sleep well Windsor thank you for all the memories... its been emotional.
