The Olympic Stadium

Recommended Posts

Can anyone explain why the 80,000 seat Olympic Stadium that will cost £500,million to build will be handed over to one of two premiership clubs after being used for about six weeks, and the lucky club will then be given £35 million of taxpayers money to convert it to a 60,000 seat stadium, or in Tottenhams case, just demolish it.

Also in West Hams case, why Newham Council which is one of the poorest boroughs in England is going to guarantee a £40 million pound loan even though they don't know who will be responsible for that loan if West Ham, who are already up to £90 million in dept go bankrupt.

Has the world gone completely mad, or is it just me?

Speaking as a West Ham fan, I don't want us to go to the Olympic Stadium because of the running track. It's not wide enough and you would still be able to see that shower of sh1t from the stands. cheesy%20(2).gif

What else is a scandal is that the person in charge of recruiting 70,000 unpaid volunteers is being paid a kings ransom for getting people to work for nothing. I would imagine that the incredibly smug Lord Coe, Jonathan Edwards, Kelly Holmes and scores of other hasbeens will make millions out of 2012. All that expense so useless politicians, and even more useless celebrities will have lots of great photo opportunities, and their mates can get their snouts in the taxpayer funded trough.

Say his name out loud three times in front of a mirror and he'll be along shortly to suck the life out of this thread too.

Going totally off message, another club has folded this week, and I was wondering what things you would do differently if you had an opportunity to create or oversee a club again?

Not the place really is it? As a serious question it deserves an answer but it's a shame that every SA thread needs closing due to contributed material. The Olympic Stadium is a better topic - you wouldn't want it going the same way.

Pudge facker.

Loosely - So I take it you don't like Sebastian Coe then, I would have thought that being one of the 'old school tie' brigade and his meticulous attention to detail was right up your street, besides how can you knock him for what he has achieved on and off the running track.

There you go again Rhodes, pigeonholing people to your standards. I was always a big Steve Ovett fan, Coe is a luvvie and anyone who wants to be a politician should by definition be taken out behind a coal shed and shot.

Personally I love that we've spent millions on sucking up to a bunch of spoilt greedy gravyboats and are now ending up with a White Elephant we've spent multi multi millions on and the best we can do is squabble over which football club to give it to. But by all means you should suck up to the pudge facker.

The thing that amuses me about the "greedy gravy-boats" is the way they keep talking up the Olympic legacy myth, which generations of London council tax payers will spend their whole lives paying off, while multimillionaire Lord Coe and his mates become even richer.

Stratford has never been the most desirable places to live and I would imagine that within a very short time most of the over priced facilities will either be destroyed by corporate greed or just left to rot because politicians will consider them under used and too expensive to maintain, and the Olympic village which consists of over priced under sized flats will become a ghetto.

What fills me with confidence (not - for the ironically challenged Rhodes) is that already the vultures are lining up to make money out of taxpayers (so far) funding of upwards of £1.3bn of the Olympic village including the Qatari Royal Family. Are locals desperately needing family housing going to benefit from the building of these bachelor apartment style spaces? Fack no. Will the taxpayer see a return, fack no, they are already talking up the giving away at bargain basement prices if not for free of these extremely costly to maintain and or convert apartments. So Rhodes, what will your Lord Coe have given us, no - don't bother to answer if you can even get your head out of his firmament - time will tell, just don't leave it to the civil servants fellas, all they know is how to spend money not keep it.

Back in West hams hey day (one week in 1987 only) I had the pleasure to be living in the entertainment mecca known by the name Forest Gate, A friend worked at the club and invited me to view the Hammers Trophy room. My car journey took me 5 minutes to reach the ground my visit into the the trophy room took 8 seconds only, (because It was plucking empty) with nothing to look at i decided to take a piss in a plant pot in the corner and leave. This is all by the by. I don't care who moves to the Olympic stadium. Like the royal wedding i will be out the country when the boring Olympics takes place.
