Windsor & Eton fold

No "official" announcement on their site as yet but judging by the comments on their forum it looks like the end for them following tonight's meeting.

I know there is a local rivalry and some won't agree with my comments but I do feel sorry for their fans who have had no say on how their club has been run to get them into that situation.

I wish their fans and any new formed club all the best in the future.

That's depressing news. Maybe Slough could arrange a friendly with the new club at the beginning of next season?

I wrote a bit about their financial problems in yesterdays programme http://sloughtownsoa...xing-times.html

Good article, and a good idea about offering a friendly. I wonder if there is anything else we can do? Perhaps offer free entry to Windsor season ticket holders, should the club fold.

No gain to us, but no cost either, and a concrete sign that we do sympathise with the FANS plight.

A sad day for local football.

Yes the friendly idea is a great idea. It's a shame that the overspending of the few at the top had to destroy the club. Good luck to all the Windsor fans who go on to start a new club.

I hope that Burnham will not be going the same way anytime soon.

Yet again money has ruined a sport - it does not matter if it is the premiership or the dog and duck zammaretto - money has got in the way of a sport that is the release of the weeks working frustrations and the bringing together of a community spirit.

I would love to keep money issues away from all sporting activities and let the ability of the individuals and there performance on the field of play be the only measure of their success. However money always creaps in, 2 WEEKS wages of some of the premiership players would have cleared Peter Simpsons debt!

Maybe this is a nudge to setting budget caps for this level of football and even clubs having to set aside a "deposit" to show they are viable and can make it through a season, but then that is sport bowing down to the money men again and the smaller sides with limited income will be pegged at a level which may be vastly lower than their true ability on the field and would stifel advancement.

You just need to look at how the money men have rigged the FA Cup, most of the non-leauge teams are out before the Premiership and Championship teams have to even remember what the cup is about - why not make all the teams start at the same time and inject some real money into lower level clubs - but this would only pull the prima donnas away from the opertunity to play in europe and the money men getting their noses even deeper into the trough!

As for WEFC it is the money men that have been the downfall, not the performances on the pitch, and however hard it maybe for me to say as a Slough Town fan, WEFC will still be our second biggest rivals after the money grabbing wycombe sc*m!

Windsor fans could turn up as 'regular' away fans to support whoever we're playing!! Would make for some fun banter for the rest of the season and make a change from the 'no men and no dog' following from most teams. We should definitely arrange a pre-season against them and allow them to keep the money.

About the money cap, Either the FA our Eufa (cant remember which) said they were going to introduce a scheme were all clubs had to make an overall profit with players wages, transfers included. This means that no club could go into debt and would then reduce big money transfers and wages.

This could and maybe should happen in our leagues as it would mean less teams have to fold due to having no money and it would mean that what has happened at windsor can not happen again.

Fair play to you all for your kind words. I echo Andy's comments above. Wasn't easy yesterday seeing the tears around Stag Meadow yesterday but there is a strong desire to build something new and exciting. We may not have the biggest fan base but no one can knock our loyalty and no matter what league and level we'll be at in August we'll be there supporting. Good luck to STFC for the remainder of the season, thanks again for the kind words and a pre-season friendly would be something we'd all look forward to.
