A Groundhoppers Report from his trip to Hullbridge

Recommended Posts

Hullbridge Sports 3 Basildon United 2

Essex Senior League

Admission £5, attendance 38

Despite the awful, awful pitch both sides tried to play football on the ground, making for a very good game. The highlight was Hullbridge's second goal, a result of the Basildon keeper attempting one of those long kicks where they kick sideways, only for him to kick it straight into the backside of one of his defenders, allowing the Hullbridge striker a one-on-one with him.

Lower Road is fairly basic - a railed off pitch with dugouts on one side and two small stands (one with seats and one for standing - the latter probably blocking the view of a third of the pitch for those in the former) on the other. The complex has several other pitches, two of which can be seen from the stands, and one of which was hosting a Hullbridge vs Little Thurrock veterans match. A large clubhouse with several rooms - a very welcome shelter from the cold before the match and at half time.
