Rebels 2-0 G & G

Much better performance today, should have been at least 4 in my opinion but I would settle for 2-0. How some of our shots didn't go in is beyond me. Ryan Spencer was fantastic although i still don't like the fact that he is trying to run the midfield on his own.

Who here agrees with me?

Yeah I do, we should have gone in at HT about 4-0 up. The chances we made were pleasing but let's face it, we're not going to play a worse team that G&G this season - they were pretty pathetic, even worse than East Grinstead. I think Spencer had a great game, but against better opposition, I don't think he can run the midfield either. We need a fine balance between the 3 strikers and the 3 in midfield.

Great performance although was starting to get worried that the first goal would never come. Spence played a blinder although would have been isolated against a better team.

It's shows how strange football can be when we put five past East Grinstead in a much more evenly contested game yet only scored two today in a match that had it been a boxing contest would have been stopped after half an hour.

Glad you lot agree, some aspects of the game I forgot to mention is that Tony Boot should have scored after 5 minutes, there were too many booking for my likeing and did anyone notice that their keeper was limping for most of the game, every since he took that chalange from Matt Miller?

I think Foster did make the one save, low down to his near post. But anyway it would have been scandalous if they'd scored one goal.

Also, Hodge hit the bar with a header from a corner and also had another from a corner well saved. Boot (I think) hit the post after about 7 mins and the ball rolled all the way across the goal and just missed the other post.

Does anyone know weather that was their first team keeper? He was very exposed in front of goal, their defence were resonable but for some unknown reason, we kept catching them off guard, something i haven't seen from the rebels for ages.

We strung some lovely passes together which should have yielded better finishing. Ryan had a great 1st half, and a quieter 2nd. Wilkinson was also very good 1st period.

However overall the opposition was pretty poor and against a better team we would struggle (on today's performance)

We need Daly at the back and Howard for going forward plus a mid-fielder (like Hakki) to help Ryan in mid-field. Boot had a quiet game.

What surprises me is that Matt Miller hasn't really got stuck in since the Molesey game in which he scored two goals, and yet he was the top scorer in Dovision One North last season. I still think that he is one of our best players though.

As for Ryan Spencer, WHY OH WHY IS HE RUNNING THE MIDFIELD BY HIMSELF??? Yes, he is trying, but surly Eddie Denton has spotted that by now, or else Spencer has told him that he needs more support.

I'm surprised that Tony Boot had a quiet game, he scored over 30 goals for us last season, but it is still early days yet.

Didn't Chris Payne play in midfield with Spencer today?

Cannot wait for Daly to return, Mark Bartley is just not good enough.

Darron Wilkinson made an impressive return to the side, his usual harrassing self.

Didn't see much of Glen Harris, but he did well to win the ball and cross for the first goal, which didn't look like it was going to come.

A good performance all round, but of course, look at the opposition. They were the 2nd worst team we've played this season, behind Molesey, who were just shocking. (G&G beat them in the previous round, of course.)

I'm also wondering whether it's an in-joke that Gary and others call our top scorer Ian Hodge, when it's Hodges?

Anyone know who we will play in the next round or is it a Monday draw from now on?

The draw is on Monday.

I think the whole point about Spencer being on his own in midfield is that he is the only midfielder that actually works in midfield. Payne was nominally in midfield yesterday, but didn't exactly do much.

As for Harris, he was pretty anonymous for most of the game, I thought, but he did take some excellent corners.

I thought G&G were extremely poor, but I would rate Whyteleafe as not much better.

I don't understand the Hodges thing either.

Yes it was comfortable, but you have to beat what is in front of you and we did that well. I think the players are finally getting to know how to play at Stag Meadow.

Thought that Payne had his best game for Slough yet actually and without getting on the ball a lot he broke things up in midfield.

Great to see Wilko back and he lasted the game really well. Stood round the right second half and realised that the moaners stand at the corner. Moaning at Spencer occasionally when he was our best player - why???

Could be a very good week for us next week - Daly should be back in the side, Barras should return and so should Ant Howard. Move Wilko into midfield and that's probably our stongest team!! Still need some new faces for the league I feel though...

One thing is annoying me a little is Haddow. I actually think he is a good player, but it does not say a lot about his commitment to the club when he won't play in FA Cup matches and features for Aldershot reserves at times as well. Would have thought that does not display the right message to the rest of the squad.

Boreham Wood in the next round anybody?

Not perfect? You're telling me......this board has a facility to check your spelling so your excuse is invalid.....therefore, I shall be explaining in great detail tomorrow afternoon, the difference in meaning between "surly" and "surely"....I feel sorry for poor Mr Denton with you casting aspersions on his demeanour like that......
