A player's worth?

I have been payed various amounts to play football in the past but never asked for a penny, it was what was offered.

If a manager can offer it then of course you as a player think it is what they can afford and ask no questions. Sometimes the manager never gave me the money but I never battered an eyelid, never played for money alone and never asked any club 'how much will I be getting'.

I used to turn up and do a better job than the guy on £60 a week for nothing as it was the game I loved and just wanted to play, and win.

I think a manager at this level should find good players that want to do it for the game not the money. Causes too many issues. However saying that, in the Prem, if your gonna pay money make sure it's because you have a team thats good enough for Ryman league, where the money should start. If it was an incentive for players to reach that level then maybe they would try harder to get there. Not just turn up and make an easy buck or two. coffee%20%282%29.gif

You should still be playing YV, judging by your performance in the Fans Forum Team, which reminds me Smudge where is my goal bonus?????

Cheers Medic, I am back playing and happily paying for the privelage as loop pointed out in his post.

Great news YV, still reckon you have a few years left in the tank to play at CCL Prem level. Still a bit concerned Loop didn't want my services, perhaps the letter got lost in the post, or maybe he thought Duncs and JJ would convince Koo to put me straight into Cove's starting 11 the next week!

Everyone needs a goalscorer mate. Cove were keeping you under wraps until the transfer deadline passed otherwise a £30 Million move to Liverpool would have been on the cards and your much too valuable for Cove to lose. ;)

the whole thing is laughable and should be stopped players being payed at this level is a fecking joke and has blown up out of all proportion, unless you have someone at your club who is crazy enough do put his hand in his own pocket then where do players think the money will come from, most clubs in this league who have a bar or social club are struggling to make ends meet especially with brewery costs spiralling out of controlLoop has the right Idea the clubs are providing the facilities at great cost for the players to perform on isn't that enough?

I agree with you 100% Duncs.... trouble is the have's and have nots will never agree on the idea, The have nots often see shortcomings in the upkeep/development of facilities whilst piling the pressure on themselves these clubs are on a hiding to nothing most of the time and rarely get thanked for what little they can put towards players expenses wages, whatever you want to call them. It is soul destroying seeing players leave your club after managers and staff put in lots of effort to sign them and do the best they can for them.

The have's will never see a problem with circling on the less well off clubs because ... they can and its not a problem to them The most annoying thing is these moves between clubs often dont work out for players you then unsettle the division you are playing in and the whole thing becomes a bit of a mockery.

Before i get knocked for saying this i am not condeming anyone they all do the best for the club they are at im sure, i would like to think very few moves for players are done out of spite (sure it has happened though).

Players cant be to blame if an offer is too good to turn down a few of these guys earn nearly a full time wage for two evenings and a saturdays work if its offered they will take it its a no brainer.

We have a divided league, further up the scale at least clubs are rewarded with a transfer fee if a player moves. Down here its dog eat dog, but you cant blame anyone no one is operating outside the rules .... So maybe the rules themselves have to change any ideas ?.

Somewhere along the line we had a terrible change, clubs now need players more than players need clubs its not healthy for the game and we are by and large powerless to address that.

Great post chessy boy, does anyone know of a club that has denied a Player a move out of spite?

Chessy Boy makes the point Smudge that no-one is operating outside the rules & maybe it's the rules that need looking at.

It is a point that also applies to the problem you are seeking to resolve

Paying players at our level of football is a very 'interesting' subject.

..... Especially when Mr Tax Man starts taking an interest.

............ Hence, Windsor & Etons problems which are due to be finally resolved in the High Court today.

£60,000 owed to IR over several years is something they don't take lightly !

£50 a week, say to one player over 30 weeks = £1,500, by even 10 players = £15,000 = Taxable income.

NO PROBLEM, IF IT IS DECLARED !!!!

The operative word being IF

I thought it was all that Jimmy Hill's fault and ironic therefore that he ended up as president of Corinthian-Casuals. But he did sign our Clive's get well soon card. Which was nice.

Bet he never bought anyone a drink,Corinthian Casuals are they the Club who never pay,and never get relegated.TRUE AMATEURS?

Corinthian casuals pay, well they did ! plus Medic would have called but Duncs gave me the wrong number

Weebs thats a bold statment for a mid table suburban premier side. Last two seasons we have been a lower mid table dive one side and have given Met Police a real run for their money. Divison one is a very tough physical and quick league and theres been many players that have come down from a higher level expecting an easy ride yet get a rude awakening.

ftfc stop fibbing...... One of ours was approached by your club in the summer and offered £££

Anyway £££ at division one is laughable - especially last season when after beating a dreadful Feltham side ( we werent much better that night ) we saw a good few of them getting their pay packets after the match !

Some people have got too much money to burn....

I was one of those players!! thought id come down from The surburban and walk Combined Counties, i got a shock, i think div 1 teams would be most of the surburban sides, i think its a much tougher league to play in.

Have to disagree and agree, depends what side they put out,A.F.C. Wimbledon top the Suburban Premier, players like John Main have been known to turn out for them, many clubs play fringe 1st team players in these games. And as most Clubs are 3 steps higher in the pyramid than C.C.L.1,they must have a better class of player. But saying that when these clubs play cup games, they seem to take them lightly, and that is why C.C.L. 1 Clubs get a result.Bit like the Fans Focus win over the Peacocks, there were players who had played at a higher level, coached and Managed by people who had done the job higher,so it was no shock when we won.

we,ve beat a few surburban teams, sutton, basingstoke, ashford! but like you said they play first or fringe players and teams that are in the higher leagues like, basingstoke, Hampton and afc wimbledon, i imagine they put out much stronger teams

Just to back up FTFC and BBM here, no players at Farnham are on a penny!

The gaffer bought me a lemonade after the 19 minutes tonight against Farnborough NE. Does that count? If so I'm getting £1.50 (Tax gone up, livid) a week for sitting on the bench tonight. But it didn't come in a brown envelope and I wont be getting one Saturday! From my understanding, there has been a small budget at Farnham in the past but the current management think it's better spent in other ways. E.g. Off the pitch. As BBM said, have you seen the state of our pitch?!? Let alone our 1980's socks!!

As the point has already been mentioned - if you're paying one or two faces, there might be a little unrest in the camp. Just because a team is doing well on the pitch - or at least winning matches, it doesn't always mean there is money. Not at this level.

I know last season players at Farnham were on win bonuses, but this year the new manager has decided not to do that.

Ive played in sides before when some players have picked up money and others haven't. It does become very clicky and bitter, with the players who don't get anything questioning "why does he get that and I don't"? Thats never good for team spirit!

That's ok Loop, took a phone call this morning from Alan Pardew wanting to know if I would replace Andy Carroll, awaiting talks between Cove and Newcastle United on my transfer fee, rumoured to be around the 30 mark!!!
