A player's worth?

No secret that I have been trying to add to our squad at Warlingham for the past two weeks and have been succesful with one player missed out on another BUT the shock came on Thursday when I met with 2 players at seperate times after selling them myself, club and explaining that Warlingham was a progressive club and that our aim is promotion bla bla bla, I then produced the two signing on forms to which both players asked HOW MUCH WILL THEY GET PAID!!!!!

To which i responded nothing and that if we achieve promotion this season and attract some bigger sponsors, money could become available next year. Both players wanted a fair amount of money to which I left both sitting there and walked out shaking my head wondering what players expect today. Ten, fifteen years ago most players would pay their subs on a Saturday and get on with it. Something that has certainly gone out of football. Remember I met both these players at differentt times and both didnt know I was trying to sign them so it must be a general thing.

I now wonder if every young player -both these players was under 21- feels that they should be paid??

I left feeling disheartened and frustrated. and with no signatures Just for the record both these players asked for over £50 a game! unbelievable.

So how much is a player worth???

Tucks I do not feel any player in Div 1 should be getting paid, I certainly would not pay any player if I was manager of a Div 1 side and I think that some of the wages paid in the Prem is to much for the standard that they play, although if someone is willing to pay silly money then fair play to the player for getting a nice lump for doing something that he likes. But definitely no monies should be paid in Div 1 in my opinion!!

Tucks,

Only the manager knows a players worth to his side be it in what level of football. If there was a budget available ALL managers would then know exactly a players worthwink.gif

Don't post much here on a Saturday night but the Mrs is out so making hay while the sun shines!

In my honest opinion good clubs and good teams that aren't here today and gone tomorrow are built on club structure, club spirit and players that play for that and the manager who builds his team around people who believe in this... and not a fast buck. Money helps.. of course it does, but if a player wants to play for you for money alone then surely he isn`t worth signing in the first place!? Maybe we should save this thread and see.... in what are difficult financial times for all CCL teams... who this time next year is still working hard for there club as a player or member....without any financial gain?!

As a side comment... Interested in the clash of the 'two best teams in Div 1' today in their mid table clash? Farleigh 1 v 2 Hayes gate... After that result Hayes Gate must be home and dry for promotion!! .... ooh i think that was a bite!!

humility.....uuuummm

Money Money Money...It drives mw mad ....My boys at HRBFC resarves don't get a penny and nor do the management team............We don't want it.... We were gonna apply to come into Div 1 but we were told if we won it we could not go into the Prem.......We would smash div 1 and if any team wants a friendly from div 1 we will come into it and show u what a team on no money can do. I am fed up about budgets, Whinging players and the whole CCL we have more money than u sh1te...... Some of my lads pay 30 quid a week to get to HRBFC tue, thur and sat and they are players that would knock the PAID players in div 1 and Prem off their pirch. Ask anyone at the Focus game on my kids .....They love playing for the sake of playing ...not for the finincial reward........And I will go one step further......... No maybe I won't.

' we would smash div 1'...... Steady Weeble... you are starting to sound like a poster from Farleigh or HG! Smashing teams week in week out for 40+ games a season is easier said than done!

That said I do agree with you you... money in Div 1 = short term = failure = gone tomorrow

Weebs your quality would shine through and you would deffo be challanging, because your team is young they would deffo get kicked up in the air and feel intimidated in some games, but overall id have to agree, We played Boreham Wood reserves the othernight and the were very good all under 20 i would say all fit and knew there job...but saying that there training every day as its that acadmy with the school mixed in thing.

We have 16 to 22 and I will tell u now div 1 would be a walk in the park...No intimidation as 8 of my under 19's rep'd the under 23's at county level v the Royal navy and they tried to kick them off the park ....won 5-1 with two of my boys getting 2 a piece and 3 of them now being touted by a pro prem club.
