someone quickly shoot down there and see if they're lying about the pitch !! bolt.gif

I was there Monday night watching the Guildford game and the pitch did take a battering as it was very wet. I was actually thinking even then that if we have much rain this week our game Saturday may be in doubt, so I am not too surprised about this. I know they intended to have the pitch worked on in readiness for tonight and were extremely keen for the game to go ahead and would have done all they could in that respect.

From AFC Wimbledon Website

"Manager, Terry Brown sees the game as another opportunity to give game time to some of the first team squad players as well as a chance for the young reserve and academy players to demonstrate the progress they have made.

The starting XI is: Jack Turner, Wilson Gondwe, Ed Harris, Charlie Girdler, Nathan Gordan, Ricky Wellard, Callum Dunne, Karl Douglin, Christian Jolley, Jerson Dos Santos, Brendan Kiernan.

Wood progressed to the 3rd round of the Surrey Senior Cup with a battling and spirited 2-1 win over AFC Wimbledon at Wibbandune. Match referee, Matt Eva wasn’t keen on the game going ahead but his concerns were allayed as a fine cup tie ensued without a booking or a bad tackle of note. And credit to the Dons as well as the home side for getting on with it after numerous postponements.

The visitors dominated early on but met a resilient defence and it was the home side who took the lead on 15 minutes when Mark Longley expertly converted a penalty kick following a tackle from behind. The Dons continued to dominate the first half but could find no way through as keeper Josh Clapham made several brave stops.

Wood had more possession in the second half but the visitors continued to create what openings there were in this pulsating tie. With one eye on the next round a rare error at the back by the home side led to a penalty following a trip and the excellent Jerson Dos Santos converted on 64 minutes. The game opened up now and it was anyone’s game but the decisive moment came on 83 minutes. Nathan Mottley fed a fine pass to Barry Tompkins who netted brilliantly past Jack Turner. Wood might have added a third but they missed the chance before the whistle sounded to loud cheers from the home support in a record attendance of 288. Wood will be at home to Chipstead on 16th February in round 3.

Finally, a big thank you to everyone at AFC Wimbledon, whose attitude on the night was spot on, both on and off the field. A memorable night for Colliers Wood United in their 136th season.
