Not a convincing draw, as usual subs put on too late, static defending allowing easy goals, and only showing real fight when it was too late.

I belive most, if not all Sloughs bookings and sending offs were for decent.

A team and management who look like they could not be bothered if they make the playoffs or not.

I think we were suposed to be the home team tonight but it did not show!

It looks like Bateman is realising the game is up, as he has now started to moan about forum comments in the programme - pity he has not shown that passion on the bench!

Due to a family illness I couldnt make tonights game so obviously cant comment beyond saying that its very disappointing that 2 more home points have been lost and to a team that played on Saturday when we were postponed and should have had an edge in fitness and stamina.

Tonight was better than last week in the sense that we posed much more of an attacking threat and we continued fighting right until the end in order to snatch a point.

But some of the defending was embarrassing. The first goal in particular from another free kick where they were queuing up to knock it in was shambolic. The marking was woeful. Yads unfortunately seemed well off the pace and struggled.

Having fought our way back into the game and equalised with Sonner's clever header we almost immediately switched off and conceded again. Sinclair's goal was class and he was unlucky with a first half shot that hit the post.

I am told Burnell was clearly shoved in the back for the penalty and he slotted it home calmly.

Thought Murphy had a good game going forward and Coyne would have been MOTM up until the sending off. I doubt that was for the foul so can only imagine it was dissent. But far too far away to comment properly.

The point has to be a massive bonus though from 3-1 down and let's hope we can get a win under our belts Saturday. COYR

Not our best tonight ..frustrating again...

the league is wide open and we have much to do I know..but its going to be a close run thing at the end..we have still to play a few teams at the near top and so much football to be played yet...

must try and get going again...and Saturday will be a good time to do it...

up the rebels...

tonight fight back and point could be so so important ...time will tell...

we shouldn't have had to have grabbed a late equaliser but at least we did get it back to 3-3 and take something

for large spells we were on top in the game but our defending from crosses and all set plays seems completely off and truly is a shambles

we can point the finger at what is not quite right in terms of our attack but at end of the day if we gift goals to opponents the attacking players are on a hiding to nothing most the time

bit more fight was shown but we still created very little for all the ball we had in our spells. mad game as when we was on top they looked very nervy and ordinary and yet when they got a bit of momentum going it was us that were all over the place

as said we got seemingly a red and a yellow for Swift for dissent which i thought we had got rid of but seemingly not

i wasn't totally convinced our penalty was correct but who cares at the end of the day was quite a few decisions they got for next to nothing

Would have taken a point before the game, so I'm happy with a point.

Just a shame to concede the goals like we did. Will miss Coyne after his performances in recent games.

Sloughs last 8 results - WWLD WWLD.

On a side note, I thought tonights referee was one of the better ones we have had this season.

Due to work commitments I cant make midweek games. What happened and what were Bateman's comments in the programme?

i'm afraid the workrate tonight was woeful we were run off the park , we were lucky not to have more goals scored against usthe back line was to static the mid field seemed unable to close people down and the strikers seemed to be afraid to strikeas said else where murph looked good going forward unfortunately his main job is defence and at times was too easily turned, yads has not really had enough starts this season so when he does he is always that little bit off, tonight it was simply the case of too little too late.

Well, at least we fought back.

At 3-1 down I thought "here we go again", but in truth if the team knew how to defend set-pieces, I think we'd have kept a clean sheet as Woodford offered very little up front (despite our defenders inability to mark or tackle).

We had two seperate 20 or so minute spells where we were well on top, but them what usually happens with Slough Town happened tonight, where we wouldn't capatalise on our dominance, but instead fell asleep and let in a soft goal.

On the balance of play I thought we more than deserved the point, but having said that our penalty for the equaliser I though was very soft indeed.

In terms of the play-off race, really its 2 more points dropped at home.

Firstly, well done to all the players for showing the character to keep on going to the end and snatch a point.

I thought Woodford were an average workman-like team although I was impressed with their two forwards who were big and mobile and their workrate in closing us down was excellent.

Unfortunately 3 goals again, gifted by poor, static defending.

One things for sure if we carry on conceding goals like we've done tonight and have done for a good part of the season we will struggle to make the play-offs.

Couple of points where I think we are seriously lacking at present.

Our workrate.

Woodford's workrate tonight was far superior to ours. They were more mobile and quicker all over the park.

When we had the ball they were all over us, not giving us any time to settle. When Woodford (and other teams this season) had the ball we just didn't close them down quick enough.

Defending.

Individually, we have defenders who look good on the ball when bringing the ball out of defense or bombing forward but when it comes to actually doing some basic defending i.e. marking from set pieces, picking up players who make runs into our area or being able to cope with a forward who is running at them, we seem to be incapable doing these basic defensive duties.

Martin's point that Murphy had a good game going forward probably emphasises my point.

First and foremost we need defenders who look good defending first and going forward, bombing down the wing second.

As usual, you're spot on,Reading Rebel.I actually believe you read the game,as I see it. So a pat on the back for being a kindred spirit ! lol !

I'm amazed we haven't tried altering our options with our centre back pairing by adding a sweeper to it [three centre backs]. It's ridiculous how many goals we're conceding by basic poor defending. It certainly doesn't help either that we don't have a holding midfield player. This inevitably leads us to being very open every game.

I would use Steve Perkins as the sweeper between Yeboah and Seeby or between Sweeney and Seeby [ changing our option of right back],as our two current two centre backs[whatever combination] are slow around the defensive area.

Brian McDermott [who's certainly no mug manager] proved this was a very effective way of playing when Slough was in the Vauxhall Conference ie Hercules, McGinnis[sweeper], Angus and so it could easily be applied to this current Slough team.

Adam Logie could also play the sweeper role.

Surely, you should try to stop goals being conceded ,as the fundamental basis of any footballing side that's going to be championship contenders.

I'm glad Steve Bateman found time to read the fans forum and was honest enough to admit that we supporters have a right to express an opinion.

I truly hope that he succeeds in his aim,to bring back Slough Town to their former glories, like when he was playing centre half for us,as he appears to be an honourable, nice bloke

I do,however, think he needs to start stamping some authority on this team especially following the Paul Coyne sending off last night, when he pushed the referee and shouted at the bench regardless of how well [lately] he's been playing.I still believe we have too many disruptive elements in our side for us to be a truly united,co-operative team to regard ourselves as play-off contenders.

If you read this,Steve, please prove me wrong!

As a side issue, a bit shocked that a defender got MoM!!

And who should have got it instead? Coyne might have been a decent shout until he needlessly got himself a straight red card in stoppage time, and for what? Nothing football-related even, which maybe makes it worse. I didn't hear anyone raving about star performers on my way out of the turnstiles.

What I saw was another average performance all round, hard to single out anyone in particular. I might also point out that defending isn't just about the back four either. But man marking is a basic part of the game and we were exposed three times last night against a pretty average Woodford side. I would like to think defending set plays is top of the order for Thursday night training!

Agree, how many times have we been caught out by a ball lofted into the box and an unmarked header (and not just set pieces)

The sweeper idea raised on this forum is a very good one although im still confident sb will have some plan up his sleeve.

Last year when the chips were down he went and got Adam Martin so same again please Steve :)

Anyway we have a slightly easier run now and we have gained 5 points from Hitchin, Arlesey, Marlow and Woodford so not all bad imo. I reckon we only expected 6 at best so we have done well.

Now we need 6 from the next two games and thats 11 in our last 6 which is good considering 4 of 6 were fellow promotion candidates.

Last night showed that we can fight back to get a draw even when most of us thought we would lose.

I personally believe that at the moment Coyne is our only centre midfielder who is playing consistantly well (though i feel that sam bateman needs to be given a chance to prove himself)

and i have been told by one of my mates who plays for the juniors that Reuben Diaz (think thats his name) is a very good CM and so he should also be given a chance. I think he also came from QPR as a "swap" with mo shariff.

Maybe Sliski can give his insight on this as he is a consistant follower of the Juniors.

Also how many goals have we conceeded goals from freekicks this season? I try not to be negative on the forum but it gets to a point when it is ridiculous. Our central defenders are very good in the air and im not sure what is happening atm but it is becoming a big problem, i know that from time to time we will let goals in from corners and freekicks but atm far too many of our goals against are are coming from set peices.

I still believe that we can make the play offs this season as there is still a long way to go and i believe that as long as our players control themselves when decisions go against us and our defence stops too many goals going in from set peices we will make the play offs albeit if its not in a home draw position of the play offs.

Bateman has done a good job since he came in, he has turned the team around and we now do believe that we can win matches unlike previous seasons where we were hoping for wins.
