Margate V Hendon tonights game

Marathon Man

Having watched this shambles of a game, i am lost for words on how best to describe the match. The team lacked shape, some players lacked passion and commitment. TURNER, ROBINSON, WELLFORD AND THE NEW LAD in my opinion had good games. CLOAKE, BALL and STUBBS had good spells.

STUBBS sending off was through a moment of stupidity, a two footed tacckle with only minutes to go.

The others i thought were all poor.

It was like watching school boy football where the players had not yet learnt how to play the simple ball. It was as if most of the players were coloured blind the number of times we passed to green shirts instead of blue. If we carry on playing this sort of rubbish then the crowd will continue to drop. 162 at tonights match and i am sure it will be less at the next home game. Something has got to change otherwise the only way to get supporters to turn up will be to pay them to watch.

We played well in the first half..that wasn't a shambles...we should of killed the game off in the 1st half..

I know we don't have the budget but we need more players!! That's 2 games in a row we haven't used any subs! Because we don't have anyone to bring on to change the game..

(Sorry I'm repeating myself..there's so man margate v hendon topics)

okay may be i was being harsh. We did play well in first half but forgive me if i am wrong but is a football match not two halfs of 45 minutes| If the players we have are not fit enough to play for 90 minuts then surely the club needs to look at the training and ultimately the management to see why players are not capable of playing 90 minutes football. You say that we had nobody to bring on, i disagree we had OSBORNE on the bench who could have been played towards the end to bolster the defence. We were after all at home yet the second half we spent in our own half for the majority of the time. As for the other subs if the manager believes that they are good enough to be named in the team squad then he should have enough confidence in their ability to allow them the chance to play be from the start or as a sub during the match.

Things need to change. I believe that IOC is trying his best as he is a true blue but i question his ability to get the best from his players at this level. I am still not convinced that he is the right person to manage MFC.

Agree CE..if someone had said 13th going into Feb at the beginning of the season I think everyone would of said that would be great..just disappointing when we drop points when we should be winning...and I know there is always talk of squad and budget and blah blah (even I mention it) but the reality is non league football is like this and a lot of clubs don't have the squad depth or budget..just have to look at how many clubs are in financial difficulty and folding

It reads as though groombridge played in front of the defence in a defensive midfield role a la jake leberl.

Interested as to how he played in that position as have an inkling that it is a role to which he is well suited .

Any comments

Up the 'Gate.

That aside with Stubbs dismissal-it makes us even more desparate for another midfield player

For the neutral this must have been an entertaining game, from both sets of players.Well worth the watch. From a Hendon perspective they probably can't believe they even went in at half-time a goal down let alone only drew the match. They had some good chances in that first half though we did play much better in that session.Only thanks to Jamie & a few balooned efforts on goal on our part prevented more goals.

Second half we tired. We did give balls away too easily & more times than not preferred to hang onto the ball rather than playing it simple thereby getting dispossed all too easily. Dropping deep as we did just gave Hendon the opportunity to attack us as they did.

First half we ran & ran & closed them down but not so much in the second period. We had some very good chances ourselves second half which SHOULD have been converted but overall we gave them too much room to play.Having said that, up until about 20 minutes from the end it was still anyones game to win.

After the 90 minutes you have to say that they should have gone home with all 3 points so overall I think it was a point gained rather than two lost.

Just a mention or three for Sean Welford who never stopped running & working back & out of defence when we had our backs to the wall & Jamie Turner for some outstanding saves to keep us in the game plus Curtis Robinson for a good 90 minutes work again..These three stood out for me on the night.

We played much much better than last week-end but only got a point but in the end we got away with that point but to be fair Hendon are a much much stronger outfit than that of Hastings.

I think you have hit the nail on the head Tony. I did not stay to the end last night as i had to be else where. Last Saturday I had the same thought. The lads are not fit, losing out in the last 10-15 minutes. If this is so then it is simply not good enough. Someone is not doing their job. It's simple. Get it sorted or Get someone in who can.

I must have watched a totally different game to you then. First half we flew at Hendon and pretty much dominated the game ( unlucky not to go in 2 or 3 up) Second half we looked dog tired and as has been said no-one on the bench to make much of a difference. Hendon deserved to take all three points from their second half play especially as we sat back and invited them on to us but they never and we IMO nicked a point at the end. Not the best display by Margate but soooo much better than against Hastings. Hendon looked to be a smart footballing side and are unlucky to have so many games in hand as that is gonna be hard for them to convert into points. Not gonna moan about not being in the top half of this league....just happy that we wont be bottom and are financialy secure.

I cant see the subs wanting to stay at Margate if they never get to play.

You say that there is no one to make much of a difference but a fresh pair of legs must be of use

Agreed there Andy but the players on the bench may well have been carrying injuries/illness etc. IOC has said that we have a small squad at the minute and he is looking for new players.

We hardly ever make substitutions though...hardly ever at home anyway...and your right we do have a small squad..a lot of non league clubs are in the same situtation, lack of squad depth, money, etc etc etc

Can't say I've noticed a lack of fitness this season. We haven't let in many late goals. If we went hell for leather in the first half last night then that would have an effect later on.

Correct me if I'm wrong, it wasn't so much that we had a lack of players on the bench, more so that we had the lack of choice on the bench (ie the wrong sort of players).

We fielded a team already using a defender (Groombridge) in a midfield role, and had on the bench a keeper + three defenders (Kane Harrington, Tommy Osborne & Josh Winchcombe) + Dan Langiano (who has next to no first team experience < played a total of 30 mins as a sub.. not this season >). We needed to freshen up the midfield but don't have anyone experienced enough to fill the role.

In contrast, Hendon had people on the bench to refresh their approach to the game .. and were able to put fresh legs on with comfort.

With such a small squad we need to keep hold of our reserve players ... at the moment we're bringing them to the fringe of the first team and then are unable to stop them moving on to play first team roles in either the Kent League or the Ryman First.

Had enough chances in the first half to be well clear by half time. Troubled them a great deal from setpieces too, and that was where our goal eventually came from. Same old story, but we need to start taking our chances. Having said that, had Hendon had their shooting boots on, they could quite easily have scored 3 or 4. They're a decent footballing side, and I certainly wouldn't be suprised to see them just outside the playoffs come the end of the season. So not a bad result I think, seeing as mid-table is, in my opinion, the realistic goal this season.

Can't believe no-one has mentioned the ref (on this thread at least). He was appalling last night, might as well have been wearing a Hendon shirt. The sending off was a complete joke. It frustrates me that these refs can put in abysmal performances week in, week out and yet never have to explain their actions.

Still, back to topic: not a bad point, and thought we did ok on the whole. But a fair result.
