We are now 9th.

Biggleswade and Rugby both have 36 points (the same as us), but have 2 games in hand on us.

Aylesbury have 38 points with 2 games in hand.

Daventry have 30 points with FIVE games in hand.

When are people going to realise that its no longer in our hands really is it?

Nathan, I think everyone, supporters, players, management are fully aware of the stats you are quoting and that as things stand it is not in our hands.

I don't think anyone's denying the facts but while it's still possible with the number of games left to play isn't it better to be up-beat and positive and good performances could well follow suit.

If the players and management started looking at our situation with that sort of negativity performances will drop and we might as well all pack up and go home now.

Point taken readingrebel.

If they do deliver and somehow manage to get into the play-offs come the end of the season, then I will more than happily eat my words.

There, that's something for the players and management to aim for isn't it?

I think that instead of waiting to see if we get into the play offs we should be looking at why we are so low at the moment.

Sb is fully aware of this and has stated he will be getting a replacement for sippo. Please let it be a target man

Thing is although we are 9th at the moment and I trust sb and the players and management and we WILL be in the hunt in april

By 23 Jan 2010 our record from the start of the season was 1 0 3 3 3 0 3 3 3 0 0 3 3 3 3 0 3 1 3 38 points A much more consistent pattern than this season Maximum run without points 2 games. It was the second half of the season that had us down to the wire. If we can produce a second half of the season like last years first half then we will make the play-offs Note those 38 points are from 19 games. The goal difference on those 19 games was 21 as opposed to todays 10.

But based on a comparison after the same number of leauge games (23 games) we had picked up 45 points and a goal difference of 23.

That puts us well behind last seasons performance.

Most of that would be due to the six game run where we only picked up 1 point.

As Irishadrian has stated, we were far more consistent last season.

Comparing season to season at this level isn't really that great a yard stick to follow though, I don't think. Unlike the Premier league for example where the composition of teams in the league and players at those teams are consistent, at Slough's level it changes season to season.

Nearly half of the Central league has changed since last season with 9 teams being replaced, on top of that near enough half of Slough's squad has changed. Bateman has had to rebuild the squad, most of last years squad had played together at Hemel when they joined. This season we have more of an untried squad with players joining from over the summer from Burnham, Wealdstone and on loan so it would be right to assume consistency would suffer.

The only way for consistency at this level is if the manager can keep his side together from season to season which is always difficult - or you have loads of money to spend to bring in quality. Something we have been able to do or capable of spending. This can be proved by Hitchin, Arlesey and Totton.

A few more facts:

This seasons average points per game = 1.56 points per game.

Last years points per game after 23 games = 1.95 points per game.

It looks like we will need at least 72 points based on the other teams averages just to scrap a playoff position and this will require an average for the rest of the season of = 1.89 points per game just to achieve 72 points.

Last year we needed 77 points to get in the playoffs with a 1 goal difference, to achieve this we would need = 2.15 points per game from the remaining 19 games - currently Hitchin are the only team who are picking up points at this rate, even Arlesey are only getting 2.13!

To get to 77 points will require 13 wins and 2 draws from the remaining 19 games, or any other permutation of wins and draws.

I think you've hit the nail on the head here,Tom.Just think where we might have been if we had been able to keep Mo Shariff, Nathan Bowden Haase,Elliot Buchanan,Paul Edgeworth and then brought in Danny Burnell,Adam Logie,Paul Coyne,Stuart Swift,Steve Perkins.I've no doubt we would be challenging Hitchin now, instead of languishing so far behind.

Of course,we all have our own ideas as to who you want to keep and who to get in, for our squad.I would still like to see a couple more youngsters[healthy competition for places] on the fringes of our team and definitely,a target man other than Simon Martin.Although I would still keep Simon Martin. That's just my opinion.

I don't know why we supporters are in such a hurry to get out of this division.Don't get me wrong,I want promotion but surely it's better to build the club and stabilise for awhile, given we have no ground. That way,in the current financial climate,we keep our costings/outgoings down for a better future and we get to play far more local sides. As long as we don't get relegated,we've got a good nucleus within our squad and youth team to build on.

My only concern is whether we will ever get back to Slough, as our supporters get ever older and is Steve Bateman the right man for overseeing our rise up the pyramid. I certainly like his philosophy on free flowing football but get incredibly frustrated at some of his tactical nous and his dull substitions[or lack of them!] but of course,it's easy to nit-pick and someone always has to take the flack when things aren't going well.

The biggest compliment I can pay Slough Town Football Club currently, in twenty odd years I've been watching them,is that the club as a whole is far better organized and has much more openness and unity and is far more welcoming to ALL Slough supporters, regardless of whether you're in the main clique or not. This is a huge improvement on other years and this makes me believe that we are progressing and that the endeavours of our Chairman,Directors and management and supporters can achieve better things,if we are patient.

Saying that though,we all love a moan and groan and I'm sure there will be plenty of moans and groans for this current batch of Slough players for the rest of the season and that's why we come on this forum. So positive and negative views should be welcome,as this leads to better discussions.
