'Twas a year ago today...

...that I had my last sick day off work.

 

This is very unlike me. There was a time in the early-/mid-'90s that I was averaging 20-odd sick days a year.

when i started work i did nearly 5 years without a sick day.. i was quite proud of that fact untill one of my more worldy wise frds pointed out that no one in management had even mentioned or patted me on the back or anything.. he told me to lose the working class guilt syndrome and get with it.. i havnt looked back since i reckon i still only do 3 a year but they are all beer related

I've promised myself a week in November, when my holiday entitlement has run out.

i get 30 days here and natch a few drinks in the right direction of our secretary ensures any snidy half days are overlooked

I get 25 days a year, plus a bonus day for every three months without sick, so I've accumulated 29 for this year.

 

Like you CANV, the bird here who calculates the holidays I'm on particularly friendly terms with anyway, so no probs with the hidden extras!

 

Just got to decide what I'm going to do with my week in November now. An FA Cup replay up in York sounds rather appealing.

nov is a bit bland put it back to feb n go sking in france.. do one lesson get bored then spend the rest of the week chatting up all the chalet maids from west london during the day while everyone else is on the slopes (no not the jap birds thornsy)

The railways are a bit weird on sickness, you can trigger what they call "Level 1" if you're sick more than twice in a 13 week period, more than 5 times a year or over 5 days in one go! You'll be pleased to know that I broke it on every point in 2001.

They have new rules now that you can't return to work on a Sunday or a overtime day (basically anyday that'll earn you more money) so you have to plan your sick days and there isn't much point in taking less than 4 days off.

I haven't been off since the 3 days after my birthday last year!

However in 2001 I took a week off to go to Newquay and a week off to go to Australia, phoning in sick from Sydney was a pretty special moment <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
