A great signing well done to Iain and the club as I know there were several clubs after him.

Welcome Tom, I am sure you will fit into our team well.

Sorry, I shall repeat, we need a creative midfielder, I've seen little evidence of such a player this season. Niether has Sean Welford. If there are three please name them.

With all the criticism of our team that's going about it seemed this week's Non League Column from Carol Barker was quite relevant. Whilst her critical comments came from behind the mic, maybe some of our critics may consider coming out from behind their keyboards. Anyway it's an interesting piece and worth remembering that we are a Non League Club so need to keep our expectations somewhere below Premiership level and be that little bit more forgiving! Anyway here's Carol Barker piece:

When can you stop being a fan? I only ask because I stirred up a little bit of trouble this week on our very own Chelmsford City messageboard over something said on the show. I said, in my own humble openion, that our management team had been "tactically naïve" in a recent defeat. I was then berated by fans of the club.

It's difficult disassociating your feelings sometimes as a fan and creating a rationale. Let me publicly state I think our manager is a great orator and a good person, but that doesn't mean I have to personally agree with everything he does on the field.

How often do we tune into a phone-in show on the radio and hear two fans of the same club unable to agree? We all have our views on how a manager should react tactically or who they should bring on to change a game, but that doesn't make us professionals - just fans with opinions.

When I was explaining this once to an ex-Premier League manager he told me my view was as important as that of the manager. We sit and watch the games, see how it is panning out and our views are probably not far of the mark.

At Non League level we're probably a little more forgiving. We hear what the manager is trying to do to change a game and we know, more often than not, that the players are part-time and can be forgiven the odd mistake or tiredness.

But what we can't forgive is a lack of effort. No matter who you are, what level you play, how much you bring home, everyone loves a tryer. Roy Keane probably wasn't blessed with the best talent in the world but he was considered the best midfielder in his day all down to his effort and desire to win. Look to your own team, how many of the players lauded at your club are in folk-law for their spirit as much as their skill?

I am, and will always remain, a fan and have an opinion and this is why I'm enjoying being away from the football boardroom. The closer we get the more it consumes and the less we're able to say.

Every so often I still cast an enviable look at "those in the know" and think what I would do differently if I were in charge, but at least now I can have a good old moan with the rest of them. Perhaps next time on the terraces, though, rather than in front of a microphone!

Apart from that great to hear of Bradbrook's signing looking forward to cheering him and the rest of the team on tomorrow!

Spot on Don, that is the main point we are a non league team!

Some on here, IMO, expect too much at times. Of course they are entitled to their opinions but I have always said take time out to get to know players, management etc. I find it very rewarding.

Spoke to Iain O'connell for the first time after the Croydon game...changed my opinion completely and thoroughly enjoyed it

From what I have seen at home games we do have a weakness in midfield as the trio are not always consistant.

I have to say I have been disappointed with James (maybe my expectations were set too high when he arrived!!) and have only been impressed with a couple of performances.

This is only based on home games and I do know that each of them have shined at some away games which I have not watched and therefore cannot comment on.

Wilson was fantastic v sutton, everyone praised him after and said how awesome he was...then the week after people are negative,....it makes me laugh, fans are so fickle...slag a player off one game, then up his a**e the next saying how awesome he is..

we all support the same team, the same players..

I hate some of the west ham team (my other team)..but i dont slag them off or criticise because 1) it doesnt help and 2) they are my team..whoever is playing is playing FOR THAT TEAM and all the players want to win

RANT OVER
