Slough v Arlesey

I would like to point out that you cannot really use statistics in our league to determine roughly were teams will end up as at any point any club could become bankrupt or be found to have been playing a player without a contract and they would therefore lose points or even drop down a level. This means that Hitchin COULD go bankrupt and lose lots of points and we could leepfrog them.

Stats is just guessing using numbers, this is the real world not a mathematical world therefore ANYTHING can happen, using Radders' example who would have thought that Blackpool would be tenth in the premiership and that they would beat Liverpool twice. Could you (with statistics) honestly ever have predicted that?

One very good point which we can take from this thread is that people ACTUALLY CARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

p.s I would like a prediction (using statistics) of what the score will be tomorow from whoever have used statistics on this forum and then we will see if they are right (and if you all agree on the same score, you should if you all use the same data).

:350: Not quiet what you are after boy, but the numbers below shows just how mixed up the placings can be if you use averages i.e. Mean, Mode & Median based of the points picked up so far and then apply it to future games to show who will be where at the end of the season.

Mean Mode Median

Hitchin Town 1 1 1

Arlesey Town 2 2 2

Aylesbury 3 4 4

Woodford United 4 7 3

Daventry Town 5 3 9

Rugby Town 6 12 8

Biggleswade Town 7 5 6

Leighton Town 8 11 5

Slough Town 9 9 7

Bedfont Town 10 10 10

Marlow 11 8 11

Ashford Town (Middx) 12 6 12

Northwood 13 14 16

North Greenford United 14 13 13

Atherstone Town 15 15 14

Burnham 16 16 17

Bedworth United 17 17 18

Uxbridge 18 19 19

Barton Rovers 19 18 15

Beaconsfield SYCOB 20 20 20

AFC Hayes 21 21 21

Soham Town Rangers 22 22 22

Does that make it any clearer?

I agree Reading. Hitchin are the best team in this league. You just have to look at the table to see that.

I think we do up our game against them and I think that Hitchin is more of a Derby for us in terms of what a derby should be like than the likes of Burnham et al

Whether Hitchin are the best team in the division will be known at the end of the season and I'm sure their two games with Arlesey will be the deciding factor. Hitchin are certainly the most consistant team in the division, that's why they are top.

Actually we might have got lucky. Not due to play Arlesey until 15th March now. Might mean the pitch is better, in which case we will murder their back four for pace. But by then they might have bought another half a dozen new players!

I didn't say it before now, but consistency does play a big part. It won the League for Bury last season even though we got 4 points out of 6 off them and would have nicked it at their place but for a missed penalty.

Having read all these posts, I agree 100% with Windsor Rebel. I think you'll make the play-offs along with Man City, Rugby and my outside bet.....Bedfont. I'd also fancy you against any of those in a one-off game.

Your point about the consistency of Bury Town and their subsequent promotion is an interesting one.I thought they looked a well-drilled,strong physical side who outmuscled Slough on our home game. Not to do them a discredit, they also had two or three players who would easily play at higher levels [the name escapes me of the player who was with them, then, who is now playing with a Football League side?].

That got me thinking about the balance of the Slough Town side this year and our pretensions about the right to be promoted.

I don't believe in the play-off system.Though, if you're lucky enough for your team to get in them, they are exciting.

I really believe that if you don't finish in the top two[dependent on points ratio], then you don't deserve to go up.

Slough are a million miles off from what I consider a worthy Championship team. They are just too disjointed [factions in team],not robust enough and too inconsistent to be regarded as such. However,as I'm a Slough Town FC supporter,of course I want them to make the play-offs.

As I've said previously in many posts,I like watching good passing, free flowing football and at least, Steve Bateman and coaching staff, try to get our team to play this way. This is a major part of why I go to watch Non-League football [especially Slough]......I know we won't win all the games or become Man United ! but we try to win in an entertaining way.I just feel we need a bit more steel and mettle to our team and tactical formation changes,to be promotion candidates.

The supporters[and me!] get frustrated when seeing some of our inept,under-performing players play like they did against Arlesey, when they can turn in and play so well in other notable games such as against Hitchin or Marlow.

We are definitely a weaker team than last year.

Last year,we didn't deserve to go up either !, but had we have kept Nathan Bowden Haase,Mo Shariff,Elliot Buchanan and Adam Martin and then added wisely to our existing squad [ie Swift,Coyne,Logie] for this season,we would definitely be giving Hitchin and Arlesey a run for their money, now.

So, as much as I applaud our management team style, there is still loads of work to be done with our squad, now and in the future,to be truly successful.Only time will tell if Steve Bateman and Dave Anderson can achieve this with the current crop of players and the lack of a change of tactics/game plan, when we are behind to physical,over-powering,well-organised,fitter sides playing for a place in the Zameretto Premier division.

Should have said I would have added Burnell and Perkins[good cover for NBH and more motivating Captain]] to the Swift,Coyne,Logie additions
