Should the Blue Square Conference teams drop out of the FA Trophy?

Recommended Posts

Last Saturday was the FA Trophy second round.

Luton played their reserves almost, Wrexham made many changes and AFC Wimbledon also dropped several of their key players.

What is the point of playing in the FA Trophy if teams in the Conference Premier do not take it seriously.

Both AFC Wimbledon and Wrexham lost, which whilst taking nothing away from Salisbury and Woking, it begs the question of should these teams be in the competition.

The Blue Square Premier at times I think would like to think of itself as League Three and not a nonleague division.

Is it time to drop these teams from the Trophy or keep them in it?

I think there should be a rule that the clubs have to play a certain number of first team players - otherwise it renders the fixture at a level that the opposition does not deserve.

If my team had a realistic chance of automatic promotion to the football league I wouldn't wish to put that in jeopardy by a prolonged run in the trophy even though I would love to watch my team at Wembley, preferably in the playoffs if we couldn't go up as champions.

True, but we are talking about games in January - 4 months before the end of the season.

Injuries to key players, or players suspended for vital matches because a lower status team fancy a top clubs scalp is probably the reason the likes of AFC Wimbledon and Crawley don't take the trophy seriously, and quite honestly I don't blame them.
