Leyton - Bite the Dust???

Recommended Posts

Chairman, manager and players leave LeytonFriday 14th January 2011

GORDON Boateng says Leyton’s future “is in the hands of the gods” after a mass exodus from the crisis club.

Manager Boateng, his staff and players have joined the chairman and club secretary in leaving the club – which is currently suspended from playing Ryman League football for a breach of league rules.

Boateng said: “It is a very sad time at the club, with the loss of the club chairman and club secretary, two men who have been with the club for many years through the good times and bad times, two guys who are real club men.

“When I got the phone call from the chairman Tony Hardy telling me the situation and what sort of situation the club was in, he said that he can no longer act as chairman of the club, which after years and years of being involved in the club was the hardest decision he has had to make, and if he knew this was going to happen, he would have never got me involved at the club.

“Tony is an honest guy and a real club man. For him to leave firstly is a big lost for the club because of the hours he put in along with the secretary Steve Bellanoff, another long standing member of Leyton FC.

“Now with the two of them gone and after a long meeting with my players and explaining the situation at the club, the whole squad decided as they don’t recieve any type of expenses, but still felt they will get together and try and figure out ways of helping generate money for the club.

“But after learning the actual financial situation and no longer being able to play football anytime soon, they all decided it was also best to leave the club and seek football elsewhere, which left me and my management team with the rug being pulled from under our feet and having no choice but to also depart as there will be no point in anyone staying without any football being played and especially no guarantees that Leyton FC will kick another ball in the Ryman League for the remainder of this season.

“This decison wasn’t taken lightly and with all the problems the club currently has it is a massive shame as the reason me and my team came to lowly Leyton was to help the club find their feet and build again, stablise the football team and get back up the league.

“It is a massive shame that the club are at this point, after only being there for a short space of time and with the weather playing havoc over the Christmas period that didn’t help football wise and for a club in Leyton’s situation it didn’t help massively financially, which made the task even harder.

“The future of the club is up in the air and only time will tell what the outcome will be but with no football being played it doesn’t look good and we all wish Leyton FC well as it is still a well respected club.”

I feel sorry for the genuine people at the club and there were a few.

The sooner they are buried 6 foot under the better. No one at that club deserves any sympathy for the obvious reason's and the so called 'fenuine people' i'm afraid attached themselves to the wrong people.

One good thing out of this is that there must be at least one decent player that we could attract to us which would improve an area of weakness and secondly we'd only get 4pts deducted on scores between us and Leyton whereas those above us are likely to lose 6pts.

I'll have a pint on Leyton tonight.

Not everyone was there because of other events that it is obvious that you are on about but there because it was their club before, during and after what went on.

It is always sad when a football club folds however if a club has to fold I would rather it was Leyton than a team like Barnet.

The last report of the poor administration and dictatorial attitude was from a supporter who was ejected from the ground last time we played there for pointing out to Costas' daugter that her father had his just deserts.

The daughter, I am told, replied "Throw him out of MY club". It demonstrated to him and me who the real owners of the club were.

Just done a revised table down to Enfield (Obviously not official)

I work out that our position in the table does not change but we have 4 games in hand to Waltham Abbey and only 2 points behind. Current table shows 3 games in hand and 1 point behind.

Makes considerable difference to Harlow who had not played Leyton so go to 9th rather than 12th taking the place of Brentwood.

It is interesting to note that their 6 draws came against relatively tough opposition. Romford, Abbey, GWR, Sudbury. Thamesmead and us. Their only victory was against Waltham Forest.

Taken from THe Ryman League Website this morning...

THE League has received notification from Leyton Football Club giving immediate notice of their withdrawal from Division One North of the Ryman Football League.

The withdrawal will now be referred to the next meeting of the Board of Directors on Thursday 27th January when, among other matters, a decision will taken regarding the current playing record of the Club.

My calculations of the revised table after yesterday's result.

A win on Tuesday could push us up to 9th place and a play off spot at the expense of Maldon is not beyond the bounds of possibility.

It can be seen that Romford and us have suffered the most as far as games played is concerned. 21 games left in the league and our next game is in February? Ok we would still have 21 games left even if Leyton hadn't gone under but the likes of ETU and Maldon two of our rivals for a play off spot, (who we have actually played twice incidentally) would have had 17 games to play rather than 15.
