Leyton Suspended

>>>>Dagger - hasn't Leyton gone through an number of mergers / name chnages over the years? I do not think they are an original club are they?

This is not an easy one to answer, but here goes -

Leyton FC merged with Wingate FC to form Leyton-Wingate.

wingate moved on, and formed Wingate & Finchley (which in turn meant that there was no longer any Finchley FC). (Yes I know there was another club called Wingate but that would only complicate matters).

Leyton (ie the Leyton-Wingate as was) joined up with Pennant FC and left the Hare and Hounds to become Leyton Pennant, and then Walthamstow Pennant, and then Waltham Forest, who in turn lost the use of their Wadham Lodge ground and are currently ground sharing with Ilford (who of course are not the original Ilford and have never claimed to be).

In the meantime what most considered to be a new club, originally a Sunday club, played Saturday football in (I think) the London Spartan League Intermediate Division - sorry but I cannot remember where their ground was. This 'new' club was called Leyton FC.

They then moved to the Hare and Hounds, still under the name Leyton FC.

So there you have it - a new club under the name of Leyton FC.

only you don't - because the 'new; Leyton FC took the 'old' Leyton FC, (then called Leyton Pennant), to court to 'get their history back'.

Incredibly the court found in favour of the 'new' Leyton FC, who they decided was really the original Leyton FC, so the Leyton FC at the Hare and Hounds are officially the original Leyton FC.

The courts can believe that if they want to.

Many consider that they have no more right to the history than Romford FC do to the history of the real Romford FC.

I don't believe anyone would think that AFC Hornchurch are not entitled to the history of Hornchurch FC, so its difficult to understand why anyone would think that the current (and real ) RFC have no right to the history of any previous Romford Football Club.

Rob - don't take the bait - write up your bird log instead.

To lay claim to a history there should be a connection between the old club and the new one. In the case of Ilford for example, there is no connection between the two Ilford teams, and quite rightly the new Ilford do not attempt to claim the history of the old club.

In the case of another Essex based club, where the original club folded in 1977, and the new club started up in 1992 there is no connection whatsoever to the old club, hence they have no right to their history. Sorry but cannot quite remember the name of the club in question. Given that one of the clubs "took over" a team called Collier Row, they might have a claim to the history of Collier Row however.

So Rob - get on to something useful - tell us about the slaty back.

The connection between the old Romford and the current RFC is the supporters, of which the majority supported the club in the old Brooklands days, and view our past as very much part of our heritage.

Players and managers etc move on regularly but for the majority of supporters a club is for life, and that's why its quite ridiculous for anyone to deny Romford its history.

I feel the same Alan, trouble is that when we say that we feel that Hornchurch fc and afc Hornchurch are the same because of the fans connection the Romford fans of some said this was ridiculous and we are two different clubs

Kings Lynn fans claim the opposite..............new club and no connection to 'old' team at all

In my opinion both clubs are dfferent clubs, but that doesnt mean we cant inherit the history from the former clubs.

Saying that, I don't know how I got caught up in all this as its all quite ridiculous and just a matter of opinion. Best wishes to your better half and I hope your taking her somewhere nice and expensive.

I am taking her to Rainham Marsh this afternoon

Nice to see that romance is not completely dead then. Never taken my misses out on her birthday and probably never will, as she was born on Christmas day.

Getting back to the original theme of this thread, Leyton, like almost all clubs that fold, do so because they are either badly run or completely unsustainable as they cant attract enough supporters through the turnstyles, I think they call it market forces, and I don't understand why anyone would shed crocodile tears when the reality is that no one really gives a monkeys toss.

If this was written by a Romford supporter, it must surely rank as the most spectacular own goal of all time.
