By the deadline of 31st December the following 58 teams had applied for promotion from step 5 to step 4 subject to them finishing the season in a high enough position to qualify for promotion.

Interesting to note the 3 sides from the United Counties League who are looking for promotion and may be an indication to the SSML clubs as to what they face.

In the MK Citizen this week Newport who's attendances match similar to that of SSML clubs were on record as saying how tough it would be competing financially with Kings Lynn and St Neots.

While Newport have a weekly wage bill of roughly £400 the other two clubs bill it was stated is about 10 times that, obviously both clubs are well supported too with Kings Lynn averaging at home just over 700 per game.

St Neots who average around 3-400 also have an ex-Aston Villa player in their squad....so maybe an indication as to just how tough the step up could be.

Do you happen to know if clubs hoping for promotion from step 3 to step 2 (i.e. promoted from Ryman, Zamaretto & EvoStik to the Conference South/North) also have to apply by a certain date in a similar manner to those going from step 5 to 4?

 

I always believed it to be automatic provided you achieve a high enough league placing, ground up to the required standard, etc. however, a few people have suggested this may not be the case.

As far I know, it is simply a case of getting your ground up to the required standard by a certain date.
