Attendances

I agree totally.

And I've said time and time again, that the likes of me, you, Laz, AFF etc. will always pay that £8 to get in, but to someone with a mere casual interest, it is far too much.

Workmates tell me they're interested in going to see a game, and cannot believe me when I tell them how much it is to get in. They just laugh.

But I've said all this before on here, and generally don't get much support.

Last season, attendances rose by 45%, probably nearer 15% if you take out the Aldershot game, helped no doubt by the perfect 7 out of 7 start and a good FA Cup run. The end of the season will have p*ed a few people off as we slumped from a possible 2nd place and barely managed 4th. The disheartened 120 or so won't have come back full-time yet until we show some consistency, decent home form and go on a good cup run.

Lower prices for kids will also help, if we get the adults in as well we will make up the shortfall in food, drinks etc (I thought there was already a scheme in place where adult + n kids was a reduced price).

John Gibson said in his programme notes last season that the Board had set a playing budget on an estimated paying attendance of 550. The notes didn't say it but I heard from someone that the official attendance figure includes 60 people who don't pay - visiting officials etc. I didn't work it out at the end of the season but I recall that the average official attendance towards the end of the season was 560.

So 500 'payers' is 10% down which means that the playing budget exceeded income by 10%.

This pre-season, Gibbo had said that the playing budget is the same as last season. The Philips sponsorship is a fantastic bonus but the income from the pre-season games is well down on the Board's expectations with the cancellation of the West Ham and Millwall friendlies. I see that the average official attendance this season so far is 360, which, I suspect is well below their expectations as well.

It's something we should all be aware of.

Zealster said that his views [concerning admission prices] are well-known. The views of most of the regulars on here concerning many of these issues have also been aired fairly regularly on here and in the clubhouse.

Perhaps it's time for another Fans Forum?

In some respects it is the price which is a little offputting to supporters. I've a few mates who would rather pay that two/three pound more to go and watch League football every Saturday/Tuesday. I also think the club could be promoted a little better- placing a little colour poster in the Farriers Arms isn't really going to pull in the punters is it?
