Canvey 3 - 2 Billericay

Great performance this afternoon that in my view did not reflect the final scoreline..

We could and should have been 5 - 1 up at HT.

Second Half was scrappy, but we had by far the best chances and defended very well.

Special mention goes to the Ricay manager who gave our fans the v signs on his way off at FT and also blerted out C##Ts our way! Why would any player want to work with such a Thug.

Fully deserved win in front of a 600 crowd which always helps!

MOM - Jay Curran - 2 Goals and a superb alround performance

A fantastic first-half performance that I thought was going to come back and bite us after the way we started the second so defensive.

For the majority of the game 'Ricay offered nothing and after their first goal went in you could count their chances on target on one hand. Bertie Brayley was his usual waste of space/money/throw your toys out the pram, and I expected more from some of these so called former Southend United pros (Lawson, Lakodo).

We ruled the midfield through Game and Dobbo with probably the strongest midfield we've had since the Minton/Sedgemore days. Rhodes was his usual self, and busted the balls of at least one of their players everytime he went forward. Easterford has cemented his place in the starting XI now and continues to go from strength to strength and our forwards seem to be reading from the same book at last.

We should've buried our two clear cut chances in the second half and we undid ourselves a bit by letting 'Ricay dominate for short periods after the break in play from which they scored their second and hit the bar.

The scoreline flattered 'Ricay somewhat as the margin between the two teams' performances was far greater than just the one goal, as has been said I think 5 - 2 would've been a truer reflection.

As for Craig Edwards we've seen it all before when he was in charge of Grays. When our third goal went in you could see the entire 'Ricay back four had their heads pointing towards their feet as if knowing what they were in for, for their half-time team talk. I get the impression that Man-Management isn't one of Edwards' better skills.

A decent victory in a good derby match is all you can ask for after so long without a game. Two difficult fixtures coming up in the next eight days though, a trip to Hellsmead and hosting the current league leaders.

Hello all, thank you for your lovely hospitality yesterday. I came over with my two daughters and we all had an excellent time. It was nice to see Canvey win as well. Very impressed with a couple of Canvey players who I think could go higher. Are you worried you will lose any of these stars in the January transfer window?

A tremendous game of football yesterday. After such a long time without a game it was good to finally see some action and this was a great derby match.

Any neutral watching, would have been highly entertained.

First half, we were excellent and bounced back superbly after conceding early. Half time came at a bad time for us as we were all over them and looking likely to get a fourth.

In the second half, we never really got going and Ricay pushed us back. In fairness, although it was very tense at times, James didn't have a great deal to do and that's credit to our backline especially Easterford and Mooro who produced great displays.

Jay Curran for me was man of the match. Two great finishes and a hardworking performance. Alex Rhodes had another great game and gave their right back a torrid time.

Their left winger was the one player who loooked capable of unlocking our defence but in fairness Ricay were very poor and defensively they were shocking. Their keeper produced a real Jekyll and Hyde performance, one minute making a great save and then the next making an awful error.

Overall, a good performance and result. Saturday will be a difficult game against a tough and uncompromising Harrow side who have had some good results recently.

Probably one of the few times this season I was genuinely rooting for you guys to win, anything that puts Craig Edward's nose out of joint...!

ShedBoy is right, the man is a thug, hope you lot gave him plenty of stick...

Glad to see Easterford doing well, and seems like the fans have really taken to him.

Roll on February 22nd...!
