C****y Island 3 Billericay Town 2

And the lesson today was....

...if the effort that was put in for the second half was applied over the full 90 minutes, we may have got something out of the game.

Other than that, not a great deal to say about the game. Harrison Chatting was by far our best player (TBH, one of the few players - who did play for the full 90). He took his goal (our first)really well.

Another comment would be (or question really)...what has happened to our defence? Before Sutton (FA Trophy), it was as tight as a ducks a*se but now ?????????

Still, we're not even half way through the season yet (games played) and once we get back on the winning "horse", I'm sure we'll push on...

...as dispell the "curse" of manager of the month...

Long way to go chaps, so lets not lose heart and can we PLEASE, get behind the players. We're only ever going to have a chance of getting something if we stand together as a united club, players and supporters.

Shocking defending in the first half, we really seem to have lost the plot in that area lately (13 conceded in our last 4 games). It almost looks like one or two don't want to be here any more - If that's the case then move them on.

We played better second half and on another day might have squeezed a draw out of it, that said Canvey had a few chances themselves.

Although it was a disappointing result, especially against your nearest and dearest, it was good to see some football again in front of what seemed a good Blues turnout and a decent crowd altogether.

I hope we can get back on the bus again soon as it would a shame for our season to fizzle out into nothingness yet again.

Good turnout by the Blues? About 80 looking at the crowd. very very quite too.

Thought we should have been 5 or 6 up at half time, good to see your manager appreciate our fans after! Why would anyone want to play for such a thug!

Anyway braging right are even for the season, thought it was a proper derby game though.

I dont always agree with Gazza, but i do agree we need to get behind the team. I could not believe the abuse that the team were getting in the first half, i agree we were poor but i dont know how anyone can call themselves a supporter when they are so abusive at individual players. disgusting in my opinion. I know it was only a small number who were so insulting and the rest of us are real supporters who follow the club good or bad. Just my opinion.

Come on Boys lets rally and get behind the team.

I suggest you ask him next time you see him.

Thought H played a blinder and he's a credit to Billericay Towns youth system.

Nice to see the Blues fan's way outnumber to islanders.

Not sure what's happened to our defence but confident that our Manager will seal it up again.

80? Rose coloured glasses look to be the Xmas pressie of the year for some c****y supporters. Did no one get batteries for the community calculator...?

And surprise, surprise, an Islander has to slag someone off from our club. I think the only decent response to that is that it takes one to know one...

Second half was good entertainment after the enforced "lay-off" period. Just a shame we had to let them score three before we could muster some fighting spirit. The comments I heard coming from our fans weren't insulting; but they were targeted at individuals. Is that a bad thing? If you're going to take the praise when you perform well shouldn't you be prepared to take the flack when you're not? It obviously riled one individual player but maybe that adrenelin rush was what he needed. If there were proper Insults flying I must have missed them.

Presumably Lawson started with an injury as he looked well off the pace he had when he first arrived.

We need to hit the ground running on Saturday so time to put the last Month behind us and move on.

I agree with Rick about the fighting sprit. We should have been all over them as we did indeed hit the ground running but alas the youngest player on the pitch seemed at times to be the only one doing it.

Our keeper made us look better than we were by keeping the score down because (imo) he had no defence line to support him.

Players that stand around waiting for something to happen won't get any applause from supporters and they should not expect it.

For one individual player to turn his back on the bench and stick his fingers up to Billericay Town fans whilst telling them to go F_ck themselves should not be tolerated.

Some supporters who had not been out to see BTFC for a while won't be rushing back to see them anytime soon and He did not help.

We pay good money to come out and watch a team performance for 90mins what we got yesterday was way short of that.

Looking forward to the home game on Saturday.

Indeed, Harrison was an example to all his (outfield) team mates.

Not wishing to fan the fires but niether should players put up with abusive language... And there was some as I was standing in front of the section that thought it their place to do so.

...but disapointment comes across in many shapes, forms and guises...

It's a chicken and egg situation. How should the supporters re act to a sub standard performance? In what form would they think that is the best way of encouragement? And how would they respond in a similar fashion in their chosen career, should the encouragement they recieve be "negative"?

I'm sure that this post will come as no surprise to some (I await the inevitable abuse, sarcasm et al from the inevitable corner with a smile).

No arguement from me Gazza. I also think that one reason the crowds have gone from our club is the disgusting language and abuse that makes it the wrong sort of place to bring your family and Grandkids.

maybe I am old fashioned but supporter means you support, encourage, assist. not scream four letter obscene words at individuals who I am sure dont go out to lose on purpose.

Tend to agree with Brightside Bloke here (no suprise I can hear Gazza saying lol). If players dont want fans to get on their backs then dont give them the excuse to and put in some effort. You didn't hear anyone slagging off Chatting or Morgan cause they were putting the effort in. The certain player who threw back a barrage of abuse and stuck his fingers up to the fans hardly put in a challenge first half and showed a complete lack of interest, in what to many Town fans is the biggest derby. To make things worse on talking to a couple of fans who went midweek to the Dagenham friendly they couldn't believe that it was the same player on the pitch cause at Dagenham he was "a right handful". How can a player show up for a friendly and then not bother on derby day against a promotion contender!?

I have said it before and will say it again, we fans travel week in week out and pay good money to watch the team and when a player decides he doesn't want to play then fans will react. Of course some fans will take it as just a bad day at the office, others will offload on the player. To be honest the players reaction (although poor and inexcusable to some watching the game) showed me that he actually does give a toss, which was good to know cause it hadn't looked that way for most of the first half!

As for your comment RickyDickie re you being a "real supporter" I would like to point out that most of those giving a bit of stick, like myself travel week in week out, spending their hard earnt money on petrol, gate receipts etc. and get very involved in the club outside of matchday so do check your facts before dismissing those who have put the effort and money in to watch THEIR team!

Onwards and upwards, we need to get the winning feeling back and quick, the key lies in sorting the defence cause that has totally gone to pot since the snow came!

I dont think I said anything about anyone being a real supporter and never said I was anymore than any other. That said I go to every game home and away and spend my very hard earned money on supporting the club. I too will critisice players but I dont do it using language that would cause offence to others and put off people wanting to visit the non league scene.

I had a conversation with someone who lives down near New Lodge and he says he cant sit in his garden in August and September without hearing the disgusting foul mouths that hurl abuse at players. his words not mine. He too attends games at NL when not watching his beloved WHU, So I guess he is a supporter too.

My point is that we need to be supportive and not abusive. As Gazza says if you want to get someone to do something for you encouragment not abuse is a better method.

Still a good turn out of supporters by the good People of Billericay. But would we get more if they thought we were family orientated?

After a very bright start i thought we could be looking at a encouraging win. Well i did have us down to win 3-1 dohh. I thought H was outstanding and dare i say it but he reminded me very much of what Matt Game was like for us a few years back . So well done H on a excellent performance . I just could not understand how we just seemed to collapse for want of a better word , and to be fair canvey could have been truly out of sight by halftime . The ironic thing is that once the lino went off injured after 10 ? minutes of second half we actually then turned the heat up, and if only the players could have performed like that from the off then i believe today we would have all been congratulating each and everyone of the players and applauding ourselves also . Unfourtunately though their tango kit in goal never really was troubled .

I have lost count of the number of times the topic surrounding langauge appears on here over the years . But it always seems to crop up when we have suffered a (heavy, or embarrasing defeat) , and in that sense i doubt there is a club in the country who is not similar in that regard . And lets be brutally frank , just about every manager in the country screams abuse at the refs/linos etc . I am in the camp of not abusing players (unless it is the oppo) but there were some dastardly thoughts going through my mind during the game haha .

You never know , this blowout "may" and i stress "may" just have been what was needed . How often do you hear of teams/fans having a right old ding dong and then going on a run .

Ok , to sum up , first half not pretty - second half much much better . Now all we gotta do is join them up and hey presto everyones happy :)

Come on folks , dont be too down , we got Kingstonian on Saturday !!!

My glass is still very much half full , and it is still a pleasant feeling after the last few seasons of us actually saying "will we still make the playoffs" , rather than saying "do you think we will stay up"

Personally I did not hear much foul language yesterday only moans for what seemed a lack of effort from certain players in a disappointing first half. "Robbo" was getting

frustrated and at times disinterested but when we continued to pump long balls forward straight on "Moores" head I could not really blame him. He was extremely isolated

and winning nothing. The crowd around me were intially encouraging in him, but he appeared to become lazy and was criticised. (Rightly so IMO).

When he did gesture and react to the crowd it was due to our supporters moaning at the team and not him personally.

2nd Half we went 4-4-2 the team put in a decent effort and although Canvey probably deserved to win the match, we looked a constant threat and played some decent football.

I have seen us play worse and win.

I don't like to lose, especially to Canvey, but being honest, it was a cracking second half of football.

(I hope Robbo stays and learns from this game)

LOL!!

Funny how this one always pops up from time to time. Personally all I want to see is players giving it their best shot 100 pc of the time. I've no interest in hearing about players feeling slippery, cold, ill or injured - Lame excuses and some lame performances in the last couple of games imo. That said I also have no interest in mindless abuse of players (or anyone else for that matter) - If you're going to do it at least make it mildly amusing!

Nice post (as ever ) Keith.P

Funny how Rickydickie and the person he spoke to that comes down to support Town but also manages to sit in his garden and also goes to support WHU only ever hear the Town supporters use foul language.

I think that sums up an issue...so, do you think he should? It's usual in the sport that we apprantly love so much that "opinions" are voiced. Lee Hodges always said to me that one of the differences between Non League and Premiership / Championship et al is the "opinions" can be heard and become more personal...I would agree, they do.

Robbo was not the only player that wasn't playing well (he may have been the only player to react but they ain't robots...I await the pun with baited breath). I like Robbo...I agree, he can be a bit...er...relaxed at times but so can others. I, like MB hopes he stays (I can't think of any reason why he won't). Six league goals this season since he joined....the highest scorer in the current team I believe...are our memories that short? Or is this just a reaction because we lost at Canvey?

We used to be a club united and as Ryan said the "potential massiveness" of this club stretches far beyond the borders of Billericay. Players AND supporters alike represent this club and if we can, just start putting a bit of belief back into the club, a bit of "united" spirit and positive motivation, we'll be a massive club!!! But, again...to some supporters, it's a chicken and egg...they won't do it, if it ain't happening on the pitch...Which is a bit harsh when you compare this season to the last couple of seasons....

Supporter...the word say's it all.
