Uxbridge 2-1 Rebels

Recommended Posts

Rebels took the lead with a Danny Murphy header after 25 minutes. They equalised after 30 minutes with a breakaway goal then scored the winner after 76 minutes from a deflected shot. A very end to end game where we had lots of possession but I felt chose the wrong option too many times in the final third. Certain players were very guilty time after time for that today. We could easily have scored five but we could also easily have conceded five. I was quite impressed with the pace within the Uxbridge team and how quickly they broke.

It was a similar story in the first half , uxbridge should have been punished with some very good football from Slough...a Break away was really their only on target effort of the first half !

but all credit to them in the second half, they really put pressure on Slough and really should have scored more ! some very fine stops and last effort defending only stopped them from adding more goals...however Slough still had some good chances and really put to many balls near the Uxbridge Goal keeper..

all in all Uxbridge deserved their win...and good luck to them in their match V luton Town in 2 weeks time..

Some result today went our way ....but we need to be sharper and finish teams off and not let them back into the game ..

cheers chris s

I hate going to Uxbridge, in all the times we have played there in the last 4 or 5 years I've never seen Slough come away with a win.

Credit to them, bringing on Costa in the 2nd half put Slough under all sorts of pressure and without Charlie Fanner making 2 or 3 great saves they could have scored more. With their games in hand I fully expect them finish higher than there current position suggests.

Thankfully some results went Slough's way today.

Another very disappointing result and 3 more points lost . If we cant sort out our defence quickly then we have little prospect of anything this season No matter how well our forwards are playing you always have the feeling that we could concede at any time. I really dont understand the comments that some results went Slough's way Of the top 9 teams only Rugby(3 games in hand) and Slough lost Everyone else gained at least 1 point Dont see any advantage to Slough in that. Also note our opponents on Saturday scored 9 today .

Lets not beat about the bush. Today we were poor. End of.

Today, we were slightly 2nd best in the first half, but miles 2nd best during the 2nd. Uxbridge looked more hungry, more determined, and more skillful. Apart from one show in each half, I cannot recall their goalkeeper having much to do. By contrast, Uxbridge has more than a few chances and could, is they had had their shooting boots on, have been out of sight at half-time.

Yes we have been winning recently, but we have hardly set the world alight and struck fear into our Central Divison opponents in doing so. Time and time again, we play the long ball to shorty forwards, and time and time again we expect Danny Burnell to take on 3 or 4 defenders before getting a shot. It does not take a rocket scientist to realise that this is NOT going to result in bagloads of goals. And our inability to keep a clean sheet has come back to haunt us yet again.

And Tom, why have a go at Irishadrian? He is one of the few people on this forum who isn't determing to see only the positives in everything no matter the circumstances. He made a perfectly valid point the other day, and people jumped down his throat. He is making a valid point about today's game. I expected better from a forum moderator.

Tom I dont believe Im a moaner. I post about what I see and sadly at the moment I dont see a great deal to enthuse about There's no point in being delusional or in denial about the realities of the current situation Pretending everything is fine helps nothing By the way Which results today went Slough's way today?.

I disagree, I thought we were better in the first half, but not by much.

Disappointed to see us go to pieces at the back so easily, we cannot cope well with pacy attackers. There also seems to be some communication issues in the back 4 and goalkeeper.

Uxbridge are the kind of team that are not afraid to throw themselves infront of the opposition and get blocks and tackles in, and we couldn't cope with that and their pacy attack.

Defensive improvement is needed for Hitchin next Saturday definately, but if we can keep pushing forward and creating chances like we have been that will help.

I'd say Rugby losing and Arlesey drawing were 2 results which went in Slough's favour if you look at teams who will be around the play-offs come the end of the season.

I'm not "pretending everything is fine", but at times on this forum there seems to be no credit when Slough are doing well or no appreciation of the oppositions ability when Slough lose or draw. It's always Slough were poor and they should easily beat their opponents.

Tom I agree about Rugby but they have 3 games in hand. I cant agree about Arlesey since they also have 3 games in hand and gained a point whereas we lost all 3! I dont expect the Rebels to always win that would be totally unrealistic and there are some excellent teams in this league but Do I expect us to beat a team 20th out of 22 in the league at kick-off? Yes. Absolutely . How else can we progress to the play-offs?

Just to reinforce my belief that our poor defence will cost us if management dont wake up and address the problem . The goals conceded of the pack most likely to reach the play-offs is as follows Arlesey 14, Rugby 16, Daventry 17, Hitchin 19,Marlow 20. Woodford 21, Leigton 23 and the Rebels have conceded 34 I am convinced that only tight defences will get teams out of this league Does anyone see it differently?

Thats not true Tom, out of Irishadrian's 34 posts he has managed 6 positive posts, 4 of them were for the Greenford game though - but the vast majority of posts have been after poor performances so you could be right about the moaning?

However he has been less than positive about the managemant and consistantly moaned about them by starting threads such as "Why Hemel sacked Bateman" back on 13th November, and "why is our home form so poor" on 13th December which goes on to rip into the management.

So Tom although your comment is rather hash it does have an element of truth about Mudgie, I mean Irishadrian.

Hi guys, keep the faith & keep supporting the team. At the moment you are sitting in a play off place with nearly half a season gone, so all is far from lost . It would be nice if ourselves, you or rugby go up as we are proper football teams with real supporters not one man & his dog village teams. Looking forward to seeing u saturday, any decent real ale pubs in beaconsfield town. good luck (apart from sat of course)

Adrian ...Marlow result ...aylesbury and Leighton drawing... these were good result for us...

chris

Chris, Adrians's point is that these would have been good results had we taken advantage of them. But we didn't.

So all that has happened is that our rivals have either made up ground on us, of have pulled away from us. I know it could have been worse had they won, but the fact of the matter is that they picked up points and we didn't. Therefore the results went in their favour.

Now, nobody can really consider our rivals picking up points and making progress (especially with us losing) to be good news can they?

i consider sloughs performance today to be far better than that against beaconsfield we were not down by three goals in the first 21 minutes against a team that are in fact far inferior to ourselves yet we made the same defensive mistakes we make week in week out, why oh why do we insist on playing the long ball game we do not have the forwards for this, though to be fair the pitch at uxbridge was akin to playing in the mendips a level field it ain't but i still think we could do better and as for the balls played in the last third well it is something we have to work on more follow up play is also required i lost count today where a goal was on if only someone had followed up. when on the break we looked strong up until we started to play the long ball, we are going to have to be much tighter at the back against hitchin or it will be like a telephone number, so come on boys lets get up and at them on saturday and show them we are serious contenders.

I would not worry too much about this defeat....

Yes we lost and our defence was poor but we are not going to win every game and Uxbridge deserve more credit than they are getting, they seem to be on a high and are playing well (probably as they have luton in a week) and set out to do a job and did it.

I also think that we must remember that Charlie fanner has only played with 2 of our defenders twice and 2 once. It will take time for the bond to be there between them and theres nothing that can change this.

The one worrying factor for me is that we seem to always do poorly results wise against big strong physical teams which makes me wonder if we have enough physical players in the team.
