Re Sutton team - http://suttonunited.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=3321&page=2

Post 32 backs you up.

I know the Sutton squad well and I guess it depends on what constitutes a "1st team regular"!!

I am fully aware of the history of the SSC but it is a fact that in the past few years, the "senior" clubs have fielded weakened/fringe/reserve squads, including the finals. That is their prerogative but my main point is don't ask supporters to pay full whack for these fixtures.

hartley 0 farnham 2

thought farnham were worth the win and looked solid at the back and dangerous on the break, hartley were a fairly physical side but lacked a cutting edge , goals came from centre back williams and striker corbett.

SO CHRIS I TAKE IT YOU DIDN'T GO YESTERDAY TO THE GAME ?

I DO UNDERSTAND YOUR POINT, BUT SURELY WHAT THESE RYMAN PREM (2 DIVS HIGHER THAN CCL) CLUB HAVE AS A 1ST TEAM SQUAD AND RESERVES (2ND IN SUBURBAN PREM) SHOULD BE ENOUGH TO WIN THIS COMPETITION AS THE RECORDS PROVE.

IT APPEARS THAT READING THE SUTTON FORUM ALL 6 X 1ST TEAMERS WERE EXPERIENCED PLAYERS WHICH I BELIVE 1 ON THE BENCH WAS THEIR 1ST TEAM 'KEEPER SCRIVENS (I STAND CORRECTED THO') .

I CERTAINLY UNDERSTAND YOUR COMMENTS REGARDING PAYING ''FULL WHACK'' AS YOU PUT IT BUT PLEASE, PUT YOURSELF IN CW OR YESTERDAY MOLESEY'S SHOES WITH THE LARGE CROWD 200-300. IT WAS GOOD FOR MOLESEY TO GET GOOD SUPPORT AND MUCH NEEDED FUNDS 'COS CCL CLUBS ARE STRUGGLING ANYWAY, HAMPERED BY THE RECENT WEATHER (NO GAMES/NI INCOME) AND NOT AS FINANCIALLY HEALTHY AS RYMAN PREM CLUBS. SO WHY SHOULDN'T THE CCL CLUBS CHARGE ''FULL WHACK''. NOW IF THE GAME WAS AT SUTTON, THEN I CAN UNDERSTAND EVEN MORE WHERE ONE WOULD HOPE THAT BEING A RYMAN PREMIER CLUB THEY WOULD REDUCE THEIR ENTRANCE FEE TO BE THE SAME AS CCL £6.00 - INFACT I FEEL SUTTON (OR WHOEVER) SUPPORTERS WOULD APPRECIATE THAT GESTURE.

ANYWAY, ANOTHER CCL CLUB THRU' TO THE NEXT ROAD. HOPEFULLY IT WAS A GOOD DAY FOR THE MOLES, IT CERTAINLY WAS FOOTBALL WISE WITH GUILDFORD DRAWING AND CHERTSEY LOSING.

ALREADY KNOW WHERE I'M GOING SATURDAY.......... IT'S 2ND V 3RD !!!

Blimey, Chris, talk about taking away someones thunder. Surrey Senior Cup is still worth winning and we were certainly treating it as a full 1st team game and would obviously charge the normal entrance. I assume you will be doing much the same for the AFC game. I am not totally sure quite how many 1st team players there were from Sutton ( we were told 6/7 involved in some way), but I can guarantee that our lads were taken all the way in a very physically demanding game and the fans on the day were treated to a very enjoyable game of football, with no lack of skill shown by both sides. I see that our website says 300, but I recall chatting to our people and I think the 200 mark was nearer the figure, with quite a lot of those being county officials. We were all chuffed to bits to come out on top yesterday and are looking forward to the next game against Ash or Crystal Palace. We had a very good day overall yesterday and nobody is going to that away from us, and I would say that any of the non-1st team lads in the Sutton side are more than capable of playing for the top CCL sides. Many of the cup games are treated by some clubs as second rate, including a fair few CCL sides who seem to think we are playing in the Premiership and want to "concentrate" on the league. We generally treat all cups as serious, as I know what a good cup run can do for club spirits, so we aim to win any we compete for. Try telling our lads that Sutton were not up for yesterday and more than capable of beating us, and our physio room will tell a different tale on Thursday. And that's not a dig at Sutton, it simply shows that they really wanted to win the game and both sets of players gave it their all. I am not foolish enough to suggest that were we in a position to win the league and had to choose between a cup win and a league win, we may rotate players, but winning is a great habit to get into and we will be bouyed by the result and performance yesterday. Sutton, for their part, clearly have bigger fish to fry with the Ryman Premier and sent a squad with that in mind and that makes perfect sense. Everyone got good value for their money yesterday and we had no complaints from either side. I saw a few lads preparing for a CCL game before I went to ours, and I can honesty say that the body language was such that certain results did not totally surprise me.

Hanworth Villa 2-0 Chertsey Town

CHERTSEYBOY, CHERTSEYTOWN A SHOCK RESULT (NO DISRESPECT TO HANWORTH VILLA) WHAT WENT WRONG ? DID YOU HAVE A NEW CENTRE BACK PLAYING YESTERDAY ?

The Hanworth Villa report made me chuckle, especially the bolded bit:-

They came, They saw, They went home again

Mon 3rd Jan - HVFC 2 - 0 Chertsey Town

There can be no better way to start a New Year than by beating Chertsey.

The lack of football over the holidays meant that a good crowd turned up for what is essentially our local derby. I don’t know what Chertsey had been able to do over the enforced break but, what with the snow and the flu virus that has raged through the club, we had done pretty much nothing. Bob Dawson’s selection possibilities were also limited by having 4 players on suspension, another who managed to injury himself in a bizarre “accident” with a glass door, a couple who had to work and a number still suffering from the virus. All of this left him with a squad that had more reserve team appearances than 1st team. No matter, to a man, all of the boys were fantastic.

It was clear that the lads fancied this game. They took their cue from Abdoula who won a crunching tackle after a couple of minutes. For the next 15 minutes we harried the life out of our visitors, winning big tackles all over the pitch. With dominance established we started to take control of the game. Lawrie & Levi (Note: please send all 7 day approaches to the club sec) gave the opposition defence nightmares every time they got the ball. In midfield our reserves run the game, with Shaun Preedie and Duane Antonio having particularly good performances, and our back line looked assured when tested. A special mention should be made of Lee Higgs who swapped his usual attacking role for that of sweeper. He looked as if he had played their all his life.

Both of our goals came in the 1st half and were similar in many respects. Both goals came as a result of a sweeping move involving a number of players and both were neatly finished by big Shaun Preedie, and both were joyfully celebrated by the Villa supporters.

It’s not right to say that the goals killed the game. Chertsey stuck to their task and put in plenty of effort but the cushion had given us the confidence to keep taking the game to them and only a number of good saves from Curlews keeper, Craig Bradshaw, prevented us coming away with a bigger winning margin.

All in all a very satisfying start to the New Year. Let’s hope for some more of the same in the remainder of the season.

Oh no Woody...... not a good day at the office mate!

Tell me about it! Although in my defence, the 1st one, took a nasty bobble, the 2nd, there was a massive dog staring at me on the side lines and the 3rd, a mole popped his head out the ground which the ball hit and changed direction! Was heading for the bottom corner! Honest..... bench for me Saturday!

I'm sure Sutton would have played a stronger side had they not played an important League fixture the day before!

Not that it matters, I'm sure they were still a good team. We played Woking kids in the SSC a season or two ago and they gave us a really good entertaining match.

Bommie, were you at El Gaffer 1-2 Fizzer last night?

Good game, but you really should have wrapped up the win long before full time. Not that I wasn't delighted there was another 30 minutes what with it being such a mild evening!

The last thing I would do is take anything away from Molesey's win in the SSC against Sutton.

And you are correct in assuming we will charge full admission when we play AFC Wimbledon (no doubt their reserve side or as close as they can get to it).

I can understand Conference/Ryman club's prioritising fixtures in this age of squad's and squad rotation. And I fully accept that Molesey would charge full admission as it is a 1st team fixture.

The Ryman league clubs are moaning about their league cup being a low priority competition.

I guess I am getting old and football (and the way it is run) is changing. No offence intended to MFC.

Now set for Thursday 20th January I believe CC. Bearing in mind there is an away League game on the Tuesday and another game on Saturday 22nd, I think you can almost guarantee it will be a reserve side.

County Cups,League Cups, are a waste of time and money, especially if your drawn at home.Well done to Molesey though in beating Sutton, and for once a decent crowd that helps their finances.A question will these same fringe/reserve players be able to play in the Surrey Premier Cup against our Div1 sides or are they now Cup tied.

We discussed this yesterday. Dons have quite a few midweek games in the next few weeks. This date seemed the best.

A tight schedule indeed CC. If only we had a 40 man strong squad of League 1 standard players like Crawl£y ;)

Interesting league the conference. 14 ex football league clubs in there!

no but a shark called Asim ate all my money at the texas hold em cash game at the casino. angry.gif

and then the dealer at the blackjack table tried to swindle me....... i had $75 on the hand and was dealt 4 and a 2. I naturally twisted and got a 2 and then a 7 to make 15 at which point he said 20 and quickly moved on to the next player without allowing me to make a decision. I would have twisted again as he had a King and was very likely to beat 15. The next player twisted and got a 5 which would have given me 20 and would ultimately have beaten the dealers hand anyway. I quickly complained at which the dealer admitted his fault but the hand continued and the dealer got 18. I lost my $75 at which point stopped playing and spoke to the manager. He checked the cameras, confirmed with the dealer and with sincere apologies paid me $150.

I then went on to the Roulette table with the missus and lost it all !

Nice to be back in England where the food is great, the climate is just about right barring a few poor weeks, the language is the Queens English, my bed is MY bed, i can get back to playing footy and i can watch Sky Sports any time i like. The only down side is work on Monday!
