Slough 6 - 4 SYCOB

Recommended Posts

Not sure I have ever seen a game quite like that!

The annoying thing was that while Beaconsfield scored their 3 goals, that was all they did, the rest of the time we had the ball around their penalty area in the first half. Very pleased to see that we managed to overcome the shock of going 3-0 down and come back to 3-3.

I thought Simon Martin had an excellent game, creating lots of chances and he seemed to do everything except score, also a great free kick by Swift. I did feel sorry for our new keeper, as the defence gave him very little help for the 3 goals in the first half and left him in a very difficult position.

Hopefully the next win will be a little more routine and we won't have to concede 3 goals first!!!

The word going around seemed to be that Jacko could be out for 6 weeks with a knee injury. The keeper (Fanner) who played tonight came in from Holmer Green but I would assume Bateman is looking for someone who is a bit more experienced at this level.

Well done Slough, a good end to 2010 (eventually!), hopefully we can start 2011 with a win on Monday.

I'm still kicking myself that i missed that game. When was the last time we went 3-0 down and came back to win? Stafford away in the Conference?

Yes the last time Slough came back from 3 -0 down was at Stafford Rangers where Stan Colymore scored a hat trick for them (details supplied by Alan Smith at half time) and the last Slough player to score four goals was Hodgy (info again supplied by Alan, the font of all Slough knowledge)

Looking at the other stats:-

Last time we scored 6 or more in a competative game was against Dorking in the trophy, where we won 7-0 on 06-11-04.

Last time we played a game when there was 10 goals scored was aginst Lewes also in the trophy, but we lost 6-4 on 02-11-02.

Now up to 4th in the leauge, so Bateman can keep his job! However after the run of 6 games where we only picked up 1 point, had we picked up only half of the points available we would have sat comfortably in second and been keeping Hitchin on their toes - those 6 games of poor performances will come back and haunt us!

Looking forward to maintaining the current form in the new year.

Im a little concerned that some of us think the recent revival is better than it really is . We are fourth because we have played more games than any other team in the league and we've played more of the poorer teams. Fact is there are currently 9 teams who have lost fewer points than us over the season so far and we must finish no lower than 5th to be in the play-offs. I saw nothing on Thursday that persuades me that we are a sure thing for the play-offs Its all about good defence (just look at the goals against of our main rivals) I dont believe a team that ships 4 goals to one of the basement teams is play-off material. I hope Im wrong as a Rebel supporter since the 60's but I will reserve judgement until mid-Jan when we will have played(weather permitting) the 3 teams lying 1st ,2nd and 3rd Then I think we will have a better idea where our season is going.

Also remember a pretty thrilling 6-4 win at Wembley (FC, not the stadium, obviously) with a smattering of red cards, penalties and own goals.

Excellent comeback lads, this can only auger well for the future. Let's just try to work on not conceding the three goals first! ;)

Irishadrian: maybe the fact that we conceded four goals was partly due to the unavailability of certain players due to the hasty re-arrangement of the fixture-

did that thought cross your mind?

Also you have to remember our goalkeeper on the night had just been signed from a team who play at oa lower division and it was probably his first game for a club in this division.

Also the first goal he let in was not his fault as it took a huge bobble just in front of him (even a premiership keeper would have struggled to save it), this would then have knocked his confidence for the rest of the match espescially as it happened so early.

You have to also remember the important thing is not playing well it is winning your games, just look at Man Utd this season, half the time they have played much worse than their opposition yet they have still won their games.

If you let in 1000 goals in a season but you still win every game you will get promoted.

I also hope that Jacko makes a quick recovery as we have Hitchin soon and it would be nice to pick up 1+ points.

Im not sure why Bateman has not brought in the youth keeper yet though as we have been weakest in this position so surely he should be given a try, if only to give the main keeper some more competition.

I think that Irishadrian made some very reasonable points, and is reserving judgement until we have played the difficult fixtures in January. That seems a sensible approach, as with 5 league games against teams still in the hunt for a play off place, this months results may well make things much clearer.

I think 95% of Slough fans would have taken 4th place at this point in time at the start of the season.

However as I have stated before having only picked up 1 point from 6 games when we had the bad run did set back any promotion push, but since then the run of leauge games has produced 16 points from a possible 18 - not bad by any ones standards!
