Abdelbaset al-Megrahi

Recommended Posts

Alleged Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset al-Megrahi is said to be close to death and on a life support machine. He has not been able to speak for several weeks and his devastated family expect him to die within days as he slips in and out of a coma. The 58 year old Libyan was controversially freed from a Scottish prison on compassionate grounds after being diagnosed with terminal prostrate cancer, he was sentenced to life in jail after his conviction for the murder of 270 people in the 1988 bombing of Pan Am flight 103 over Scotland. The humane decision to free him in August 2009, taken by Scotland's Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill, sparked anger in the US and was condemned by Barack Obama's administration. Last week Libyan Leader Colonel Gaddafi said al-Megrahi's family would be suing over his 'neglect' in Greenock prison, Gaddafi said 'his health was not looked after in prison, he didn't have any periodic examination and after his death his family will demand compensation because he was deliberately neglected in prison'. Some British campaigners insist his conviction nine years ago was 'unsafe' and are calling for an independent inquiry into the evidence.

Loosely - Why do you want to know what my opinion is as you're not normally interested in what I have to say are you.

Oh don't be such a wet weekend Rhodes, occasionally you say something of merit, not often but theres always a faint chance you won't show yourself up.

It's just that your posting isn't much of a conversation piece is it? I mean we can all read that guff in the newspapers.

Loosely - Well if you must know I think al-Megrahi was convicted of the bombing on 'flimsy' or 'unsafe' evidence, rather like Amanda Knox was during her trial in a Kangaroo Court.

Well Rhodesly, like you I have always had a nagging feeling that Abdelbaset could have been jut a convenient "offering" but god help him if he'd have to rely on you ever speaking up for him since you've failed spectacularly to explain away - no strike that - completely make the evidence against Foxy Knoxy disappear during your many lurid ramblings.

Loosely - So are you saying you are agreeing with me then about al-Megrahi wrongful conviction, are you feeling okay!
