Cycling to Barton Rovers........maybe!

This Saturday me, Andy and Claire are due to ride to Barton Rovers :runyouover: . One of the advantages of riding a 'proper' road bike is that they're light and easier to propel. The disadvantage is that they have very thin slick tyres which don't go well with slippery roads. The forecast for Saturday is for the temperature to have dropped again and whilst the cold isn't an issue (once you're riding you warm up) the roads might be.

Although there's a good chance of snow and rain (bring it on!!) we'll do it unless the roads are icy. We're going to take a view later in the week on whether it's safe to ride and I'll update on here. If it's not possible we'll pick another ride later in the season and do two rides in one month to compensate.

The Barton Rovers ride is very similar to Hitchin at just over 40 miles. In fact we might even use the same route then cut across at the end. If we go the direct route we cycle through Beaconsfield, Amersham, Berko and up towards Dunstable which will be utra hilly.

Fingers crossed we get to do it and don't get visited by the puncture fairy like last time!!

Well up until this afternoon I was going to cycle. The roads around here though mean that it just can't be done. Whilst the roads are relatively clear to drive on all of the slush gets pushed into the kerb so unless I cycle in the middle of the road (that'll upset a few motorists!) it just isn't doable.

Sorry but if evenb if the game goes ahead we're gonna have to give this a miss and make up the mileage later in the season. If needs be we'll take an afternoon off and cycle to the rearranged Barton game.
