To be honest they were a decent side but we should be beating teams like that and beating them comfortably, once again we have lost to poor opposition in cup football because too many players didn't turn up.Saying that we have been on a good run of form and it had to come to an end somewhere, would rather lose today than at Sutton next week but we will need to regain our form for that one

To be fair, on the Ashford forum some of their supporters thought it was daylight robbery, and they seemed genuinely impressed by your team, and supporters.

Sh1t happens sometimes.

We did the hard work but it was just the final ball in that seemed to be a problem. Seemed a combination of a bit of sluggishness combined bit a bit of bad luck (Michael Spencer's shot against the post, disallowed goal etc). Having said that there were some good performances from Lewis Smith and Michael Spencer notibly.

I think the enforced layoff didn't help us - indoor training isn't quite the same as match fitness.

Credit to Ashford for hanging in there and mugging us at the end.

Hopefully we've got the cobwebs out of the system now and we will put in a better performance against Sutton (we never seem to do well at their place so it's would be good to get a result there). Ref was really poor, but that isn't an excuse. Not so good for us financially.

Hope we play Ashford away the same weekend next year.

(League last year, Trophy this...)

And they have their Dark Mild back.

And win, third time lucky.

Agree with the comment regarding the ref, however I could think of stronger words if you need them.

I also agree re the team not turning up.

In fact, due to some of the comments I heard after the game from certain quarters, I'm gonna give it all a swerve for a while..... seems our money and effort isn't apprecieated.

Now, what was that word that I was thinking of earlier............

I don't agree about the team not turning up, I thought we played well. Ashford have one of those annoying defences that pass and clear well, like Maidstone. Needed an excellent goal to win like the one Spencer nearly had that hit the post, but a replay would have been deserved of our efforts. All refs are different and the one we had yesterday stopped the play far too much. For two teams that pass the ball round well it is annoying. Lots of yellow cards dished out only makes it longer to wait for play to resume. It's not all about you ref!

As for players not turning up,that may be a bit harsh but there were a couple of influential players who did look off the pace but it's hard to be critical of them after our recent run, let's not forget we are still unbeaten in the league since tonbridge away and that's really the only competition that matters

One of the players who shall remain nameless, got onto the coach and said something like "thats four hours of my life i won't get back".

It is a silly comment by a player who didnt get on the pitch and was no doubt frustrated at not getting a game and the fact that we didn't get through in the trophy.

In all seriousness i wouldn't take the comment too seriously and its definatly not worth buoycotting games over as i am sure the rest of the players were just as gutted as the fans and management who now have no home game for over a month, woke up yesterday morning to find they didn't have an extra 4 grand or so in the bank but are still willing to help run the club till it gets back fully off its knees

regarding the comments from the nameless player, nobody has ever suggested that our team are rocket scientists, but that's an incredibly stupid thing to say to or within earshot of fans who have not only given up 4 hours of their life, but have also paid to get there and paid to support the team and players that would apparently rather be elsewhere. if that's the case, surely he'd be better off stomping around bluewater or lakeside with the missus than travelling with the hornchurch squad. or perhaps should drop a division or two if he's only interested if he's playing.

regarding the referee... seems this card-happy onanist has previous...

http://www.dorchestertownfc.co.uk/season/201011/reports/braintree-h-bsbs.shtml

"Referee Charles Breakspear was arguably the most prominent figure of the afternoon though – all for the wrong reasons. And his bizarre display culminated in an early bath for Avenue Stadium favourite Steve Devlin, who was harshly sent off six minutes from time, and another red card for unused sub Harry Nodwell."

I agree it's a stupid thing to say but it's one player and not the whole team that thought that, plus the player was unused and although it doesn't make it right it was obviously born out of frustration

As for the referee,he was a grade A c..t and it was all about him, every single decision you got the impression that he had to the most important person on the pitch, instead of being part of a team working to make the game as easy on the eye as possible for the spectator.

There was an assessor there, well if the assessor does his job properly then mr Breakspear will be doing Sunday league football next week
