Slough 1 - 1 Bedfont who ever they are this season

Recommended Posts

Missed the 1st half, but a strong second half from Slough with a good goal from Burnell and then a bit of a flap to give them an equalizer.

Also see Burnham got beat by Brook House 0-2 in front of 47 - leauges lowest gate so far this season.

And Windsor abandoned after 65mins due to floodlight failure - a well run club!

Don't agree with some that a draw was a fair result.

I thought that we should have been 2 up in the first 15 minutes and we had far more chances in the game than Bedfont who in the main relied upon the counter-attack.

Our biggest downfall at the moment is our inability to score when we are on top and playing well and we always seem likely to concede when holding a slender lead.

Yes we have a few that have colourful language ,But thats because we have support ! and your going to hear things more, yet yesterday but most was coming from on the pitch ...

..back to the game I for one did think Bedfont deserved a draw, yes we had chances but in the last 20 mins of the first half , they too could have had 3 or 4 !

All in all 2 teams that battled well and cancelled each other out !

The results went for us yesterday ..but if we had just held on ..we would have consolidated our drive up the table...

cheers Chris s

He didn't get sent off, once again I suggest you get your facts straight on the player and what the actual dismissal was for as you are wrong on both counts!

Re the physio, to be fair it was only a matter of time before somebody showed some indiscipline given it took the referee 40 minutes to award a freekick in our favour.

So it wasn't Moore then. I didn't think it looked like him but am sure that 15 was read out at the start as being him. What a shame if it wasn't. Could happen to a "nicer" person.

Always found Fergus to be a kind hearted, genuine, well liked, committed player in his 3 years at our club, however I appreciate he's had a very long career but speak as I find.

As do I but if I really said what I thought the swearing filter would go into meltdown. So what was the dismissal for? It looked to me like he (whoever he was) got two yellows at once! Given that he hadn't actually tackled anyone that I saw it's reasonable to assume it was for foul & abusive.

Foul and abusive carries a straight red card punishment, There are mixed views as to what went on, I'm told by the youngster that a comment was made from the side suggesting the ref "put a yellow shirt on" and that he simply laughed and agreed. The Ref told me that he heard the player laugh and say "yer, he's a cheat" so sent him off for presumably unsporting behaviour.

The first 20 minutes of the second half we battered them but one goal is never enough for Slough. Thought Bedfont were one of the best teams i've seen this season but disapointed we couldn't keep our winning steak going.

Still can't get my head round two Bedfont teams playing right next to each other tho. I'm all for clubs representing their area but it seems a bit excessive! Green Pea can you enlighten us to why this is?

In fact, I've got a photo of Paul Coyne getting a yellow card with the clock on 14 minutes.wink%20(2).gif

We definitely rode our luck at times but also missed two good chances at the end of the first half. Maybe a last min winner was fair given the injury time pen win at our place.

All the best for the rest of the season, with the management team and players you should be challenging for promo whereas we are in year 2 at this level and building for a challenge next year.

Very frustrating as we had enough chances to kill the game off. We started like a train and could have been two up in the first five minutes. It's misses like these that worry me - at no point did I think we were safe at 1-0. Steve Bateman simply doesn't like "playing it safe" and killing a game off with defensive substitutions - mainly because we only have midfielders and attackers on the bench! I'd sometimes just like us to kill off a game properly by playing it into the corners and eating up the time. Either that or convert some more of the chances we make please!

Bedfont did come back into it strongly and did deserve a point overall - just hugely frustrating.

Time and again this season we've had chances and not put them away. And not for the first time, it has come back to haunt us.

What wouldn't we give for a target man for Burnell/Sonner to feed off - we get one of those and I firmly believe we will score bagloads.

So as we enter the return fixtures, I think we have to accept that what we have is basically it. We are unlikely to get too many changes of personnel now and if one or two do arrive then some will have to go.

So what do we have ? Going forward we are pretty good, we make lots of chances but in many games we don't take enough of them. Midfield is good going forward, but not so good at putting their foot on the ball, slowing the game down and bossing the opposition, thus often leaving the defence a bit exposed. Defence is reasonable, but again as it goes forward whenever possible we do sometimes get gaps. What they cannot seemingly do is grind out a result and keep a clean sheet. Oh for someone at the back who could shout a lot and take charge - it would make me feel so much more comfortable.

Many teams would give a lot for our personnel and support. If we can get just a few more goals and if somehow we can keep a few more clean sheets and start winning a few at home then maybe we can scrape into the final top five. The playoffs are a lottery and anything can happen. Hitchin seemed nailed on and Arlesey, Woodford and Rugby ( with games in hand ) currently look good for three of the playoff spots. So it's one of Slough, Marlow, Aylesbury, Leighton or Biggleswade for the other place.

We can do it but, like last year, I suspect it's going to be close.
