Hooligans ?

According to the Observer the residents of Britwell are worried about football hooligans - do they mean us ? Have I missed this element at our games or are are they 'sleepers' waiting for the new stadium to appear ?

I really think the Observer should stop inventing the news (like the angry residents od St Leonards Road) and give us a break. A few letters to them wouldn't go amiss, though I doubt that they would print any.

I'm quite pleased that the best objections they can come up with are such nonsense! Even more ironic that the front page of the same paper should feature an article about a lorry driver whose cab was torched as he lay inside as it sat in a car park on Britwell.

It should be us that's worried about going there not the other way!

I did also have a quick chuckle to myself about the residents main complaint about crowd trouble, but to be honest, people will read that who know nothing about us and believe it and then be against the stadium. It's a place I'd rather not have the stadium due to the whole areas reputation, but unless something better comes along, I'll go with it. That and the fact it's in walking distance for me!

Anyway, letters to the Slough Observer, which will be printed if they have the space as I've found to my delight on recent occasions, can go to:

letters@sloughobserver.co.uk

The more people that write/email in to protest those claims the better!

I'm hoping to start a newspaper weekly roundup of news on the official site to cover the news stories that the Express and Observer are carrying in our own words, not that it helps you much right now Brighton Rebel! <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Basically the article went round, much as they did with St. Leonards Road residents, Britwell residents asking them what they felt about having a football stadium on their doorstep. Needless to say, all the responses they recieved were negative, mainly indicating fears about football hooligans being i nthe neighbourhood.

I'll try and get some of the stories on the site tomorrow evening.

The Express were not exactly supporting us either.

Their front page headline, last Thursday, went something like: "Fears raised over £100m stadium plan", which is a fairly negative opening shot...

They hadn't obviously been stirring-up ill feeling, but I think there were views addressed about crowd trouble.

I am sure that the residents will soon become more interested in the traffic implications of the development. (And anyway, it ought to be possible to get a police statement saying that crowd trouble is not a problem at Slough's matches.)
