Club Websites

Do they matter anymore? More people look at mitoo and on here to look at what is going on in the ccl. I've gone back on Cobham website to see what has been done to it since I handed it over to someone else and its not been updated for 3 MONTHS!!! It's bottom of the 'hits league' below the likes of cb hounslow who write about the junior teams! ranked 313th across pitchero football teams which is shocking!

I've done a little sort out to get it a little bit up to date but what i'm asking is, is it worth doing when most people come on here and on mitoo?

Club Websites are very important, lots of information on most, lets you keep up with whats going on,Directions for grounds. The C.C.L. Website for example is a lot better this year, regularly updated. As you know it needs a committed person to update, therin lies the problem.

Deffo websites. Looking at the stats for ours there is sometimes nearly 1000 hits on a Monday

Just had a little look and ours doesn't get more than 40 visitors!!! I don't really have the time and just want to concentrate on being a player anyway. Everyone at the club quick to moan if its not updated but nobody wants to do it and if they do they will last a day then give up but if its something important then its something that needs to be done.

Any ideas how I can brighten it up?

I always enjoy going on all the clubs websites, especially after you've just played a team, get there views of the game. On pitchero the likes of, Westfield, Knaphill, Sheerwater and Bedfont Sports are always up to date, as is ours (South Park) but secretary has gone to the Ashes for 3 weeks. But as for the rest, they only tend to update it if they get a good result!

the reason its only had 40 hits is because people like me, who would visit the site to keep in touch with the progres of the hammers, were disappointed that everytime we revisited it had not been updated.and soon stopped dropping in and whilst this forum is a good place for gossip and opinion. Its the individual club websites for the facts, updates and match reports. its important please have ago at who should be doing it. Prior to the change in management the local paper carried every match report I sent them and the unofficial website was updated by andy (what an oversight letting him down)

its the media and website that brings in the floating supporters :wall:

For a crap website or two try the Egham Town ones; one is almost unfindable because the url is overlong and even I can't remember it, and the other one is mine. I have not bothered updating mine for a while because of a desperate lack of computer know how. I am trying, when I can get around to it, to build a new one. Even I am not holding my breath. As said above the basic information is available elsewhere, and I'm sure that the deathless prose we writers of match reports compose is only of interest to a handful of people. The stuff I write on Egham Town only gets used in our match programme, and then it is only the most recent one, so if we have, say, three consecutive games away and happen to have done something amazing in the first one no-one sees what I have written except the local paper (who don't use it for anything other than some key facts like who scored and when), the Bennett family who run the club and one or two others. That kind of means that a website is needed, but in all honesty who gives a toss what I think about a match at, say, Mole Valley, apart from me? Still, I've been doing Egham Town match reports on and off for about 25 years so not doing so would feel weird. One alternative would be to stick them on here, but that just seems pushy and we would end up with match reports from everyone. Two versions of the truth at least for every single match - I know we get that pretty much anyway, but at length? Can the site take it???

TEMPESTWARD, I HAVE READ YOUR COMMENTS, FRUSTRATED COMES TO MIND HERE BUT, YOUR IDEA OF HAVING CLUBS MATCH REPORTS ON OUR CCL WEBSITE IS NOT SUCH A BAD THING IN MY OPINION.

NOW I'M NO COMPUTER WIZARD, AND I KNOW IT IS PAINSAKING FOR SOMEONE FROM THIS WESITE (SAY IAN) TO GO ON EVERY CLUBS WEBSITE OR AN INDIVIDUAL FROM EACH CLUB TO DOWNLOAD EACH MATCH REPORT ONTO A SEPARATE CCL ''MATCH REPORT'' THREAD AND PINNED BY IAN.

I FOR ONE I BEING A SUPPORTER OF ALL CCL CLUBS (IE) GROUNDHOPPER, WOULD BE INTERESTED, IT ACTUALLY SAVES LOGGIN ONTO THE VARIOUS WEBSITES TO SEE HOW EACH CLUB HAS DONE, SO BASICALLY CENTRALISING CCL MATCH REPORTS ONTO ONE WEBSITE MAKES LIFE ALOT EASIER, BUT AS ALWAYS IT MEANS SOMEONE DOING IT FOR NOTHING AND ONLY WHEN THEY HAVE TIME.

FOR ME IF IT COULD BE DONE, IT WOULD BE GREAT..............HOW ABOUT YOU GUYS, WHAT DO YOU THINK ?

Nice Guy,why dont you create your own Match Report, your one on the Molesey v Chertsey game was a cracker.Being a Groundhopper you have no affinity to any 1 side, you love a Rumour or 100,but on only one condition,as space is precious turn your CAPS LOCK KEY OFF.

Nigel I agree with everything you said and you did a fantastic job while you were there it just needs another nigel to show the same dedication and put the time in. I'm not that person though. What happened last year can never ever happen again and if it does cobham will be in half again.

I also agree that letting andy down many, many times and he was left out of pocket. All I wanted to do was submit a little match report now and then of any cobham game I had been to and when I first started it was usually a first team game because all I was, was a youth team player. Then people at the club throw the whole program and website on my little shoulders. And trying to print the programs on a home computer is one of the most painful things i've ever done!!!

Hear your pain YHW.

I used to do the programmes at Corinthian Casuals and Raynes Park Vale when i played for them. Fortunately, had a photocopier at home as at the time my old man worked from home, so was able to print it that way, but it was a long process. Lost count of the number of times i was late due to photocopier breaking down, and causing issues putting it together. No programme - club fine; me late for the meet time - i got fined - no win situation.

Still do the reports, and a few other bits for Valley now, but fortunately Darren does the printing, and most of what i do goes onto the website, so it's not to bad

And I tried to get it done two nights before but the amount of times the ink ran out and paper was wrong was up. My favorite was at the meet time I was running round curry's looking for the correct sized cartridges. No win situation exactly. And you still get no thanks!!!

Me puters fine, Smudgie, me old mucker !!

I don't get the time I used to to banter on here.

WEBSITES:

I'm NOT blowing my own trumpet, but as I'm at home for a lot of my time, I keep, or at least try to keep DFC site up to date.

Three team pages. A front page.

It can only be as good as the information I get from team managers/secretary's/press officer, etc.

For the record, I try and check it on a daily basis.

On a bad day, we get around 180 hits. On a very good day, over 300 hits !
