Yep worked late in Guildford so thought I would take the game in.

Looked to be an easy game for top of the league Guildford but it ended up being anything from. Bookham should have been in front in the first 5 minutes when a defensive error let the forward in 1 on 1 but not only did he not score but he also missed the target. Bookham went even closer when a superb cross from the left was met by a diving header which hit the inside of the post and came out. It was Bookham again who should have scored when another defensive error let in the forward who ended up blazing wide with the goal at his mercy. Goalless at half time. Guildford came out in the 2nd half determined to press forward and this they did but really without testing a resolute and deep Bookham defence. Guildford did nearly snatch the lead but a fantastic save from the Bookham keeper from a quickly taken free kick kept it goalless. AS we came into the last 5 minutes Bookham had yet another 1 on 1 but the striker shotweakly at the keeper. Then in the 1st minute of stoppage time a ball was played across the Bookham area and after a couple of rebounds the ball fell kindly to a Guildford player who smashed it home for an undeserved win. Harsh on Bookham but typical football cliche of sign of a good team winning when playing badly. Guildford are the team to catch.

I think I speak for all of us at Guildford City when I say that we were very impressed with how Bookham player tonight. It might be a bit of a cliché, but if you'd tried to guess which team was where in the league based on tonight's game, you would undoubtedly have put Bookham as league leaders. Not our best performance but let's not take anything away from a very good Bookham side! It will only be a matter of time before they start picking up points if they continue in the same way they played tonight. I suppose the old adage is that if you don't score goals, you can't win games. We were lucky tonight, and I imagine Bookham are gutted at our late goal. We wish them the best of luck for the rest of the season - and hope we don't have to play them again too soon!
