It was an enjoyable game but for the loss. We played 3 at the back which left us a few gaps and Hendon enjoyed the free space. However saying that Gio, protho and Kendall defended admorably as well as RB in goal pulling off a couple of good stops.

As usual our forward play was outstanding especially when chasing the game with 8mins to go. We should have equalised in that time but did'nt.

Yep a gutsy performance which will gain us 3pts if transferred onto the league game v's Heybridge on Saturday.

We were unlucky not to get something from the game but Hendon were good going forward in particually Danny Dyer in midfield who worked his socks off. Good to see Andy Jones back and Lee Protheroe played really well at the back.

Maybe luck will turn on Saturday.

On a negative note the cold end's new camera puchase doesn't seem to like video recording in the dark as some of the footage i took is rubbish... gonna attempt again at the Heybridge game but it may have to be still photos from now as I can't afford anything else and it takes forever to edit it together.....maybe i should spend some time with the Mrs!!

Hendon (1) 3 O’Leary 31, Busby 60(p), 81

Enfield Town (1) 2 Jones 10, Osei 67

Attendance 81

A sparkier performance against Premier Division side Hendon saw Enfield finally create some luck for themselves even if it was not to ultimately be enough to see them through this cup match. It started with the opening goal when a shot from the edge of the box from Daniel Jones kicked up off a defender beating keeper James Reading. It continued throughout the game as some resolute defending saw Craig McKay clear a goal bound header and with Hendon looking to get back on terms, a good save from Rob Blackburne tipping Lubomir Guentchev’s overhead kick behind. From the resulting corner Paul Campbell cleared off the line as Enfield came under pressure. Hendon finally struck through a corner from the right when O’Leary’s header beat Blackburne. The Enfield keeper remained positive, getting out quickly to smother the ball at the feet of Danny Dyer. Returning to action after injury, Danny Jones had a long range shot parried by Reading. Osei had the ball in the net only to see it ruled out for offside, but Enfield were showing they knew where the goal was now. They were up against some decent opposition, and relied on some good tackling back from Lee Protheroe, and a squandered chance from Hendon’s Casey MacLaren to finish the half level.

The second half saw both sides throw caution to the wind. Protheroe fired wide after a good run from Campbell. Hendon’s MacLaren came close with an early header. Richard Morton directed an Andy Jones corner into the goalmouth but Osei was unable to turn it in. Daniel Jones came close with a couple of shots, before MacLaren again popped up after McKay was caught in possession, but his shot was easy for Blackburne. With Hendon turning the screw, Craig Vargas Jamie Busby and Dyer all tried their luck, and Lee Protheroe did just enough to unsettle MacLaren when through to allow Blackburne to cover the shot. The line finally gave when a challenge from Mckay on MacLaren gave away a penalty which Busby fired into the roof of the net for the lead. It was not to last long. A good run at goal saw Morton’s shot blocked by Reading, but Osei was on hand to sweep the loose ball home. Scott Cousins tried to catch Blackburne out with a chip but it was too strong. Campbell and Osei both had further chances, but Hendon kept pressing. Mark Kirby’s first piece of action was to head the ball off the line to thwart Dyer. A follow up shot saw Dyer again denied as Blackburne covered well. With both sides looking for a winner, Enfield were caught at the back. A cross in from the right was glanced away from Brian Haule by Protheroe, but when Cousins played it back in from the left, Busby arrived at full tilt to head past Blackburne unchallenged. Adam Wallace hit the post almost immediately and Dan Forward put a header just past the post. Enfield’s last real chance came from a good intercept from Liam Hope which allowed Wallace a run at goal. He played the ball back across the area only for Hope to curl his shot past the post.

On a negative note the cold end's new camera puchase doesn't seem to like video recording in the dark as some of the footage i took is rubbish...

On another negative note, no pictures from me I'm afraid. I've hurt my left wrist (nothing serious, I think) making holding the long lens uncomfortable so I decided to give it a rest. And also I thought it would be just too cold. Normal service on Saturday, I hope.

An encouraging performance with plenty of chances created even if too many are still flashing just wide. I'd be more worried if we weren't creating chances to miss.
