BARKING UP THE RIGHT TREE

Its not What The Butler Saw but How Butler Was Seen. Barking Football Club’s 16 year old player James Butler was seen playing for our first team by a scout from successful full time professional club Stevenage of the Football League and has been invited to join them.James will initially join Stevenage for 3 months , at the end of which they will decide whether to offer him a 2 year scholarship. This was arranged by management company 2Moro. Had James not been playing for us this opportunity would not have arisen and he has expressed his gratitude to the club.

James is the youngest player to appear in our first team since current Dagenham and Redbridge manager John Still who also played for us as a 16 year old.

Further evidence of what the club is achieving for local youngsters is the selection of 2 members of our Under 18 squad to represent Essex.

While this recognition is very welcome Barking Football Club’s intention is to engage as many local young people as possible in active participation in sport ,which we see as particularly important at a time when there are so many less healthy pitfalls and temptations available to them.

There are over 130 boys and young men involved in our 6 youth teams and our development programmes with similar numbers of girls and young women involved with Barking Ladies.

This is all achieved by dedicated volunteers who are working with the sparse facilities and resources available to the club.If the proposed improvements that we have suggested to the council were approved this would support and increase our ability to enhance opportunities for local young people. This would include being able to build an educational programme and develop an apprenticeship scheme .
