DJ Spoony

Recommended Posts

What do members think of DJ Spoony and what has he got to do with football as what he knows about it can be written on the head of a pin. In November last year I understand that Spoony was arrested and charged by Police for grabbing an ex-girlfriend by her throat at her home yet incredibly still kept his job at the BBC.

There are some interesting comments on this link regarding DJ Spoony's brush with the law last year where he grabbed a defenceless woman by her throat. The unnamed woman, thought to be Spoony's ex girlfriend, later complained to Police and the DJ, real name Johnathan Joseph, was taken in for questioning at Brentwood Police station, he sheepishly admitted common assault and was released with a caution:

How do you think this compares with that other attack on a defenceless woman where you justified it as "deserved"?

Horace - You can't compare what Gazza did, if anything, to Sheryl Gascoigne to what DJ Spoony did to his ex girlfriend, it's a different kettle of fish altogether

Why? Which do you consider the lesser offence? Which one deserved to be assaulted? You've already made it clear that you believe it can be ok to give a slap to a woman with little or no personality, if you happen to feel that way when you get home from the pub. I was brought up to understand that IT IS NEVER OK TO THUMP A WOMAN.

Horace - All I said was that having seen Sheryl Gascoigne on 'I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here' she must have been like a red rag to Gazza and I could see why he might have raised his hand to her, if he did that is as I think it was very much exaggerated

I still have vivid memories of seeing Sheryl's battered and bruised face plastered all over the newspapers, a result of the angelic Gazza raising his hands to his unworthy ex wife.

I don't think Gazza's behavior was in anyway exaggerated, although I do accept his actions portray a man who is probably severely mentally ill.

Missunderstood - That's fair comment but, like I said to Horace, you can't compare what DJ Spoony did to his ex girlfriend to what Gazza did to Sheryl Gascoigne, Gazza is just a teddy bear at the end of the day who sadly fell on hard times following his illustrious football career.

Spoony claims to be a Liverpool fan and says that he has supported the Anfield Club since 1977 however his favourite line up is Clemence,

Hansen, Lawrenson, Carragher, Gerrard, Barnes, McAllister, Redknapp, Dalglish, Fowler and Rush. Of those eleven players only Clemence played in both the 1977 and 1978 European Cup Finals and Hansen and Daglish played in 1978, what about your Emlyn Hughes's, Jimmy Case's, Tommy Smith's, Kevin Keegan's, Steve Heighway's and Ian Callaghan's. Spoony just doesn't have a clue does he folks.

Horace - Okay what would your favourite Derby XI be then, I bet it wouldn't include the likes of Robbie Savage, John Brayford, Miles Addison or Dean Leacock would it, you would have Roy McFarland, John McGovern, Alan Hinton, Dave Mackay, Charlie George and Kevin Hector, that's my point.

You are quoting present day Derby players there, DJ Spoony wasn't doing the same re Liverpool was he?

I would have to include players you've never heard of if it were my personal favourite Derby XI, rather than the best ever XI - Geoff Barrowcliffe, Albert Mays, Frank Upton, Bill Curry - ever heard of them? I would include Zak (Hector) and Gladys (Hinton). Roy McFarland was my all time favourite ([****!!****] manager though!). I would also include Igor Stimac and Branko Stupar. Oh, and Peter Shilton, and Colin Todd.

No Archie Gemmill?

Hookey - No doubt Horace will now give us the old chestnut about Brian Clough driving to Gemmill’s house and when he refused to sign for Derby Clough said he was going to sleep outside in the car. Gemmill's wife then invited Clough in and he stayed the night with Gemmill signing on the dotted line for £60,000 over breakfast the following morning, what would he be worth today.

Sorry Archie, how could i forget you? The story I remember about Archie, which i know is true, is a famous occasion against Leeds, when that gentleman Norman Hunter felled Archie, the patted him on the head when he helped pull him back to his feet. What he actually said to Archie while pulling him up wa "Next time I'll break your legs, you little c u n t!"

It would seem that the chickens are coming home to roost and DJ Spoony is slowly but surely being frozen out by the BBC for the numerous gaffes he is making:

According to (ahem) Wikipedia, DJ Spoony was born in 1970 therefore he would have been 7 in 1977. So although he was probably old enough to support Liverpool he would not probably have had an appreciation of players like Smith,Heighway, Callaghan and Keegan who ended their Liverpool careers around this time (Keegans last game was certainly 1977 EC final v Borussia not sure about the other three). It is more likely that he would have a better recollection of players from more formative years say between the ages of 10 and 20 and indeed 5 of his choice come from this period. There are some surprising choices perhaps in his selection but its just that HIS selection.

LATO - Yes but Spoony said that was his best Liverpool XI, to leave Emlyn Hughes out of it would suggest that he hasn't got a clue what he is talking about, it would be like you leaving Jerzy Gorgon, Włodzimierz Lubański or indeed LATO out of your best Polish XI. Spoony reminds me a bit of Marlon King who feels he has the God given right to treat women like pieces of meat and get away with it, Jermain Defoe can be bracketed with them too.

Leopard, change and spots eh rhodes.

Actually Lubanski would not be in my all time Poland XI as despite his legendary status I never really saw him play apart from latching onto Bobby Moore treading on the ball at Katowice in '73. Lubanski was injured in World Cup '74 and past his best in '78. By your reckoning I might as well have included Ernst Willimowski. Like Spoony I would only pick players I have a good personal recollection of.

LATO - Well that makes it all rather pointless then doesn't it, so presumably you wouldn't include Kazimierz Klaudiusz Górski in your all time Poland XI either
