My Reading review- at last!

Greetings Earthlings!

I haven't had the chance to post my review of Reading on here yet, as my computer has been completley screwed since I got back. Still, here it is now, a bit brief as I'm just doing this off the top of my head and I can't remember all the bands that I saw.

Friday:

Less than Jake: Seen them before, much better musically this time but failed to keep me or my friiend interested during the songs we didn't know.

The Datsuns: SUP-FU*KING-ERB! One of the best bands of the weekend, so much energy backed up by awsome songs. Their album is definitley on my 'To Buy'list.

The Darkness: Again, a major higlight of the festival. Only downside is my friend told me Justin Hawkins used EXACTLY the same stage banter as he used at Knebworth. Also, saw a potential 'MAD' in the audience, a young boy who shouted 'P!SS OFF' randomly during the set- must have been a Blink 182 fan!

Electric Six: Disappointing. Ruined mainly by the crowd shouting 'GAYBAR' at every possible opportunity and then leaving straight after they'd played it, before the end of the set.

Elbow and Polyphonic Spree: Missed Placebo, Blink 182 and Linkin Park for these two bands and it was the right descision! Elbow are no-way dull, they were superb live and the Polyphonic Spree set felt like an acid trip!

SATURDAY:

The Libertines: Missed half of their set due to them being shifted about. The songs were still good but I feel that they've lost something live without Pete Docherty. Carl Barat seemed uncomfortable and there was a lot less energy than when I saw them at the Astoria. An average performance.

The Streets: Brilliant, except for technical difficulties and Mikey Streets [****!!****] his voice up by drinking loads. He looked nervous, obviously aware that he was a supposed 'garage' act playing a rock gig. Got a good mosh pit going but I think EFMTFTV was right, he is definitley more of a tent act than a main stage act.

Doves: Quite good, little bit boring, but good for chilling out to.

Beck: Fantastic! Up there with the Datsuns and the Darkness, although the set was a bit short.

BRMC: Much like the Doves, except for the chilling out bit. Better than when I saw them at Oasis though.

Blur: The best by far! First few songs were ruined by some d*ckheads in the audience where I was, but once I moved the gig was just spectacular. Phil Daniels was there too! 'Nuff said!

SUNDAY:

Good Charlotte: Cr@p, deserved the bottling they got.

Primal Scream: Never really been a fan so I was a bit biased. They were quite boring and only talked to the crowd to insult them, Gillespie at one point saying 'You're all slaves, here just to see Metallica and not joining in. Why don't you do something different!'. Why don't you stop talking bollo*ks?

Sum41: Quite good for a nu-metal canadian band. Better than Good Charlotte anyway, but that's not hard!

Hot Hot Heat, Grandaddy: Missed System of a Down for these two, and I'm glad. As much as I like SOAD, these two bands are much better.Unexpected highlights to say the least!

Yeah Yeah Yeahs: Best Sunday band, best band on the Radio One stage. They came, they saw, they conquered. Again, loads of raw energy, fantastic songs and an amazing performance.

Metallica: Opened my eyes to this lot! So much so, I'm now considering buying my first Metallica album. Any suggestions?Again, saw a potential MAD by the 'Smoked to Perfection' burger stand wearing a Metallica shirt.

Right that's that then. Who else went to Reading on here? Was it just me and MAD?

Hi Chubby, Glad you liked Beck, I only saw him once and he did an accoustic set which didn't work too well. That said I reckon some of the midnight vultures and Odelay stuff would go down very well live.

Get the new Elbow album, I quite like it and while you're there you cant' go wrong with Metallica's Black album. I certainly like the sound of Hot Hot Heat, they must be due an ablum soon...

I thought Hot Hot Heat had an album out already. 'Make up the Breakdown' I think it's called, unless I'm thinking of someone else.

Got the first Elbow album, and that was quality. They played Newborn last and it was a stunning end to a brilliant set. As for Beck, he did a mad kind of pop medley in the middle of his set- Justin Timberlake, Beyonce Knowles, Tatu and many more were paid homage to! One of the funniest things I saw all weekend I think!

it seems Gillespie was pissed off with people throwing placcy bottles at him and quite rightly asked the perputators to come round the side...which of course wasnt taken up
so not reallt talking billhix

as for PS live very hit and miss, and indeed a band of their time...

Hmmm, wouldn't say the yeah yeah yeahs were the best band on the Radio 1 stage, that has to go to The Coops and definitly not the best on the sunday, The Music were somthing else that night. I didn't watch a single band on the main stage on sunday, all (with the possible exception of Primal Scream) are a load of crap.

Blur were disappointing. Their new songs are so boring, there is nothing to them.

Have to agree on the rest that i saw as well, the 'Spree were fantastic, and made even better as I was standing next to and ended up chatting with Connor from The Thrills.

The award for the biggest joke act of the weekend goes to Violent Delight. We only went to see them cause their from St. Albans, should have had an extra hour in bed.

I missed the Cooper Temple Clause, which I was a bit pissed off about, it was all down to my friend but I won't go into that. Decided to miss The Music for Metallica as I saw them last year and they were great, but I decided to risk it and give metallica a chance! I can't agree with you about Blur though. I agree that that track 'Crazy Beat' is a load of crap, but when they did their earlier stuff they were amazing! And come on, you've got to give Phil Daniels some credit! <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Whereabouts were you standing for Blur? If it was at the back, did you hear those knobheads who kept shouting 'sit down' to the people standing up and throwing bottles at them. It was so annoying, I couldn't hear the music properly, hence why I moved.

I was at the back and a load of people were throwing bottles at the crowd we were ni, so me and my mates got a load and threw them back. It was stupid, like ten or twenty thousand people are going to sit down cause their too [****!!****] lazy to satnd up or move. Tw@ts. That was only for the first three songs, we were down the front later on.

I'm not saying Blur's older stuff was rubbish, just they would play two great songs, then play asomthing from the new album which (bar two or three songs) is a pile of s**t. Plus Damon fell of the stage, the c*ck. Phil Daniels is still a legend.

Same you missed the Coops. I'm going to be a bit biased as their one of my favourite bands but they were somthing else. Defintily the best that I've ever seen them, just a shame it had to be at a festival and not one of their own gigs as the set was so short, but their new songs are brilliant, can't wait to get their new album. Roll on monday.

Were you standing to the left or right of the big screen? I was in the middle sitting down. Those people who were throwing bottles had a huge great big campfire going. I mean if they wanted people to sit down why didn't they create room by putting the fire out the twats. As my friend said, either sit down or stand up, but whatever you do, don't f#cking complain!
