Maldon & Tiptree

Tomorrow we host fourth placed Maldon & Tiptree in an attractive league fixture which provides a great opportunity for 'The Town' to throw the form-book out of the window and get back to winning ways.

Everyone is disappointed with our recent run of results, but we haven't exactly been turned-over by anyone and suffered heavy defeats. More a case of us not taking chances and suffering the consequences.

A quick glance at the table shows M&T are a few places above us, 6 points more, with us having two games in hand. Their current goals record is scored 33 conceded 30.

My money is on a long overdue confidence boosting win for Steve and the lads tomorrow, particularly if our forwards start finishing off our excellent approach play, and we keep close tabs on M&T's Joe Sweeney (11 goals to date) who is at present the leagues 2nd highest goal scorer.

Think this is a time for real optimism and a day when our luck is about to change for the better !!

Go for it you guys, you are much, much better than your present league position.

That is really good news and even more reason for optimism this afternoon.

Think this guy could (will) prove a very good signing for The Town. He has played for a number of clubs at a higher level, looks big, strong and powerful, and has scored some impressive goals in his career. Hopefully, he will fit in quickly and make an immediate impact today.

Steve's comments in the Gazette this week are very encouraging. He clearly is working very hard to bring success to our club, and it is very refreshing that he is so open and honest. Good to hear that Jon Moore will shortly be back in the frame, and that our plague of injuries is beginning to ease. Once Stuart Blackburne, Ben Hammond and others are back, Steve will have a big selection headache, but a situation he will more than welcome given the events of the last few weeks.

Turn it on today guys and grab those three precious points.

I'm speechless! Another very disappointing result. Really thought we were capable of turning things around today. Did the new striker play ? Also, is it right that Maldon had two red cards and played out the last 30 minutes with nine men ?

Was this another match of missed opportunities for The Town, or did we get what we deserved ?

Steve must be gutted. Where (why) are things going so badly wrong, and what light is there at the end of the tunnel ??

Comments welcome.

There is a lack of confidence in front of goal and the team is one paced. Today they were firing crosses into the box in the last half hour but it was not working. Passes were misplaced and sloppy and nobody tried dribbling it into the danger area or low crosses.

We are not a bad side however we are not as good as I thought we were a month ago.

We do miss Ben Hammond and Andy Jones even Rudi - someone in the middle of the park who can find a man with defence splitting passes. Someone who can look around and see where the devastating ball can be played.

Even during the game we had to make some forced changes as Jordan had to go to hospital, Sam was injured as was Dennis Ahmet. We cannot hope to achieve success without a settled side developing a rythm.

Thanks Steph for some very constructive and thoughtful observations. Hopefully, things can be rectified before we fall too far behind other serious promotion contenders.

Enfield Town (0) 0

Maldon & Tiptree united (0) 1 Fenton 50

Attendance 202

Enfield’s goal scoring drought continued and yet again it cost them dear. Despite reinforcing their front line, Enfield didn’t stretch Maldon keeper Tony Tucker enough in the first half. Things looked promising early on with Leon Osei and Deniz Mehmet linking up well. Osei then came close heading over a cross from Jey Siva as Enfield made the early pace. Paul Shave headed over a Michael Deane cross but then Sam Byfield tried an over optimistic lob after a Lee Protheroe free kick had been punched clear by Tucker. Joe Sweeney should have done better after being put through from a flick on from Dean Stanton, but cut his shot wide of the post. Byfield came close chipping over, then new signing Walid Matata blistered a shot just over the bar after bursting into the box. Mehmet was struggling with an injury and replaced by Adam Wallace. A good ball down the line from Siva to Matata was only cut out by Greg Enstone handling it. Osei fired over for Enfield and Sweeney hit across the goal under pressure from Lee Protheroe as the half ended all square.

Early saves from both keepers prevented quick goals as the game restarted. Rob Blackburne, denied Maldon saving from close range then Tucker kept out a Matata header at the post. A goal from nothing came when Dean Fenton picked up the ball in midfield sending a looping shot just inside the post. Enfield’s hopes of a comeback improved when an indisciplined display from Paul Shave saw him pick up two cards in as many minutes. A free kick to Sweeney was cleared by Siva then the resulting corner was scrambled clear as Enfield were yet to make their numbers count. A superb turn on the edge of the box from Matata saw his shot pushed just wide. Paul Marks sot just wide before Richard Morton’s header was clawed clear at the foot of the post by Tucker. Blackburn picked up a second card for bringing down Wallace on the edge of the box reducing Maldon numbers even further. Marks free kick to the back post eluded everyone, then a charge down the right from Wallace saw his centre cleared. Enfield worked the ball well to try and capitalise on the extra numbers but the nine men knew what they had to do and dug in for some serious defending. Siva sprayed balls into the box repeatedly but they were scrambled clear time after time. Wallace cannoned a shot off substitute Paul King from close range and Marks’ ball back into to the danger zone was poked wide by Matata. Maldon survived an appeal for a penalty as things became hectic. Marks was rushed while lining up a shot, Liam Hope saw a shot on the turn well saved by Tucker. Enstone escaped a close call when he nearly turned a cross from Siva into the roof of his own net. But Tucker was up to shots from Kirby and Wallace blasted over as the 90th minute brought the final whistle.

Enfield Town: Rob Blackburne, Dave Kendall (Paul Campbell 34), Jey Siva, Lee Protheroe, Mark Kirby, Paul Marks, Deniz Mehmet (Adam Wallace 28), Richard Morton, Walid Matata, Leon Osei, Sam Byfield (Liam Hope 71).

Things will only get better by supporting the lads unconditionally.

No one likes the current state of form, however it will only improve when they are backed by the superb supporters that you undoubtedly have.

Dig in and get beind the players and management team - you will get the rewards!!

Totally agree.

Comparisons-Look at Chelsea 3 defeats in last 4 games, Look at United who are playing sh1te and have drawn 6-7 games, Arsenal 3 home defeats (west brom, N'Casle and Spurs) City spending £000000000000,000000000s and still look sh1te etc etc, we will turn this round and once we turn it will be full speed ahead.

The difference is that those teams you mention all still pick up wins every 2 or 3 games AND stay in the top 4, whilst having their 'bad' spells.

Yes your correct they stay in the top 4ish however thats more to do with everyother clubs incapabilities to capitalise. Looking at our league, all teams are dropping points for fun even Needham lost this week along with Wingate, our faults are we did not capitalise. But it will turn round and hope that it is sooner rather than any later.
