Chenns

Article on Chenns on the Windsor Express site saying he wants to stay at Windsor: http://www.windsorexpress.co.uk/sport/article-18717-chennells-i-want-to-stay/

Once again shows the loyalty and commitment of the man to the club. With all of the off field turmoil and possibility of a points deduction you wouldn't blame him if he did think "I've had enough" even if a league/conference club didn't come in for him.

Obviously, we all hope he secures his ambition of a pro move, but great to see in this age of mercinary players loyalty does still exist out there.

Totally agree Michael

It is indeed refreshing, hopefully we will be able to afford to keep him & perhaps a better contract at some stage for him when things are on a more even keel, without upsetting the rest of the squad of course who also deserve praise for their attitude during these dark days

Agree as well Geggy.

Maybe Michael looked at the options, looked at what Crawley have already spent on players (especially their strike force), wondered if he'd be in their team or playing reserve football and occupying space on their bench waiting for his chance, and balanced that against leading the Windsor attack, being a highly regarded striker by us and plenty of other clubs (we can all see how many markers other teams have to put around him and he still finds space), and being able to play every week at Premier Division level. Add to that his desire to stay despite our situation and you really do have a player who leads by example.

His attitude, week in / week out, is excellent and mirrored by everyone else in the squad. We're playing some excellent football against top clubs and coming away from games with a point when we could have taken all three and been in the top five. Those top teams looked shaken and have commended Dave and Byron for having a team with high standards of skill.

The squad are on a steep learning curve for this level, but they're no longer scrambling to climb that curve - they're revelling in the challenge and achieving far more than could have been expected. It's good to travel to away games having a positive feeling - and we certainly have plenty of away games to enjoy that feeling!

If Michael does remain with us, then it gives the club a great boost to getting through our current troubles and emerging even stronger and with a bright future.

Only problem is that the club have told HMRC that we are actively selling him to pay off 25k of the 53k we owe them. If Chenns stays and I hope he does, we have to find 25k from somewhere else.

There are a number of clubs watching to see what happens to Windsor who may put in a low bid knowing our situation or even worse picking up Chenns for free. I don't know whether it is possible for the fans to buy his registration for say 15k giving the club immediate cash. If a league club comes in and offers a reasonable offer and Chenns wants to go, the fans are compensated for their investment and the club get some of the surplus. Seems like a win/win as long as it doesn't contravene any laws!

Wasn't that the problem with Carlos Tevez where an individual owned him and then the FA or Premier League said that that was no longer acceptable so they had to sell him.

Yes that's right although there are other ways and means !

If anyone comes in with a low offer or expects to get him on a free then they'll have a very long wait - until Hell freezes over !

I should imagine any scouts coming along to watch Chennells are leaving with the name David Pearce underlined in their notebooks.

He's 6 years younger, only a (comparitive) handful of games played and has an excellent goal scoring record for a winger.... If I was thinking about spending £25k on a W&E player it would most definitely be on him, not the admirable Chennells.
