Why Hemel sacked Bateman

In view of the current discussion re Steve Bateman where opinion seems pretty well divided I think its time to remind people that he didnt come to Slough as a successful manager He came having just been sacked by his previous club for percieved failures In his statement on the day he was sacked the Hemel chairman said "Although we have a much better set of players we dont have a better team These players arent playing together as a team and I dont believe Steve or his team are capable of motivating them back into action Someone else may be able to get a better response out of them" That was in Feb 2009 but that exact statement could be applied to Slough today in my opinion What do you think?

That's opinion, lets talk facts you don't happen to mention the fact that the same manager:

- Got us to within 90 minutes of a premier division two seasons after finishing in the bottom two of the league, and one season after finishing 16th in the league

- Got Hemel promoted to the Premier Division in the first place

- Got us 32 more points more than we got in the 2008-09 season

- Got us to the top end of the table for the first time in lots of years

- Got Hemel to the Premier division play-offs

- Was responsible for brining in the majority of the side that saw Hemel get to the play-offs in the 2008-2009 season

- The first full season after he left Hemel the club avoided relegation with a reprieve

Everyone's entitled to their opinions, and rightfully so as we all pay our money, but the grass is not always greener on the other side...

Chris - agree with all of the above, but that is history.

The problem is the here and now - the current performance is on a par to the bad old days under Sweetman and Betts, and there is no sign of improvement.

There is the need to make a change somewhere to something, but even the brains of Nathan and Windsor Rebel (no more handbags ladies) cant surgest a solution.

The source of tactics and direction come from the bench. However even with the addition of Dave Anderson there appears to be no solution.

It might just be we are trying to play too cleaver football and need to go back to basics?

Chris the HP points tally is well off what it should be, as at home you would expect us to be picking up two thirds(14 from 21) of the points and we have got less than one third(6 from 21).

Away form of 10 points from 18 is about right.

If we had picked up those extra 8 points at home, that would have had us on 24 points and in 5th place and we all would be happy bunnies.

The intresting issue is at home the fans only tend to make noise in the covered end and with recent weak performances it is easy to sence the lack of noise and disgruntaled tension.

Windsor Rebel I would be interested to know just how long you believe a bad patch lasts We are almost a third of the way through the season and we havent kept a single clean sheet since the season kicked off We have lost more home games and scored fewer home points than any team in the league since the season kicked off and we stand 15th in the league and falling fast Bad Patch ??

Just out of interest, do you not have a full stop button?

It will obviously last until we get our next win. There are still 29 games left to play , 87 points at stake, so its hardly a disaster yet is it?

Matt . Yes I do. I tend to separate groups of words by starting the next group with a capital letter and I think most people on the forum don't have a problem with this. However, It's no problem for me to click the stop button I'll try to remember in future.

Interesting to read your comments from an outside point of view. In the season before last Totton only managed 3 points from a possible 18 in a sticky patch, and they were a terrific side.

I am genuinely surprised that with Dave Anderon you are not getting better results, I thought he was a great signing for you guys and thought you would be pushing for promotion.

For those that have had enough of Bateman, who would you like to see take over, do you think Anderson should take over or is there someone else you would very much like to see at Slough. Just wondering really?

Not worth talking about people taking over. We have a manager in Steve Bateman and assistant in Dave Anderson, their combined experience is worth more than anyone else you would probably find at this level. I have faith in them still making this a successful season.

Regarding Jarvis, I don't think there is a likely hood of him ever, ever, ever becoming Slough manager.

The rumour on Tuesday Fuzzy was that Mudgy would give his right arm to be in charge at Slough.

And step down from a successful premier division club? Doubtful but dream on
