Sutton this Saturday

Hello Margate fans! Sutton here

As I've already mentioned on the Isthmian forum for those of you who use that, this season I am cycling to all of Sutton's away league matches to help raise money for Sutton's Football Development Plan. The main part of the plan is to build community football facilities that everyone can use, including women's and girls' facilities and those for disabled people. It's an ambitious project but we really hope it comes off - and with enough support, there is no reason why it shouldn't. Further details can be found on the club's official website at http://www.suttonuni...y_fdp_menu.html.

Now for the shameless begging bit.

I appreciate that you guys might not be hugely keen on raising money for another club, but please remember that it's for a good cause and what we're trying to do is improve community sports facilities for those who need them most, not just for ourselves.

You can make a pledge on my page, which is here, or grab me at the match. Please take a look at this page, where you can see what it's all about, how many miles I've done so far and how much money has been raised, as well as a blog detailing my adventures to date.

You can make a pledge as a lump sum or, if you prefer, you can sponsor me a certain amount per mile. The total distance to all the league grounds is approximately 900 miles, but be warned, the total mileage may be a bit more than that as this is the total of all the trips if made in one direction only, and some will be return trips.

If anyone does decide to pledge, I will be eternally grateful

Also, it would be really good to know if a secure storage space could be found at your ground for my bike - otherwise I won't be able to let it out of my sight! Any bright ideas?

Before someone else says there's plenty of room in our trophy cabinet. I'm sure one of the stewards or officials at the club will give you a secure area. Come and see us Margate fans, we may not be able to give a lot, but i'm sure you won't be too disappointed...

You're right there, and I did check the weather forecast and think "oh bugger".

Thanks, guys. I'll look out for someone when I get to the ground! Bearing in mind that my bike is my most treasured possession, and I wouldn't even leave it at Sutton's ground without ensuring it was securely locked up ;)

From one biker to another , good luck for tomorrow Sal its a long way but im sure you will be here for the 3pm kick off . I have done my riding for the yr now having just done a charity ride that i organised from Birchington to Brighton which was 100 miles which i did after persuding 8 of my mates to do it with me but it was well worth it as we raised £2600.00 on the day . Much respect to you .

Cheers Andy - it was a great ride  Turned out to be about 84.5 miles. £2600 is a great result; I've raised over £1500 so far but I'm hoping that more is coming! I didn't ride home this time because it would have meant staying another night and I couldn't afford that, but I do ride home from any match that's less than 30 miles or so (that's about half our away grounds).

Thanks everyone for being so welcoming, and well done on the result! :excited:
