Guildford City vs Ash United

One of our committee members had had a look at the pitch and it doesn't sound like there's any cause for concern - so anyone missing out on their midweek fix of football will be welcomed to the Spectrum for the Guildford Borough Derby!

3-0 Guildford Latest ,Greaves Hat Trick.

4-0 Tydeman.

5-0 Camara, Ash down to 9 men

6-0 Banton Brown

Got along and saw the second half of this one. Maybe a false impresssion as joining it at 4-0 against 10 men but not that impressed by Guildford apart from the worldy 6-0 goal. Teams will have to be smart when playing them to not get involved in the verbals, wind ups and handbags that seem to follow most refereeing incidents .We weren't earlier in the season and turned 1-0 up against 10 men into a 1-5 defeat. All I'll say is they've had a lot of people sent off against them this season and it's working well for them.

Felt a little bit sorry for the Ash defender who got sent off for last man back on the penalty .... correct in the law - but it wa a fairly inoccuos foul and the penaltty was probably enough . Still there's not an alternative set of laws to be applied to a team 4-0 down with 10 men. Good programme .

Everytime I read a post regarding Guildford City, at some point the posts turn negative to the way that they. What does it matter if they get under the skin as it were of the opposition. The CCL Premier looks like one of the toughest leagues to get out of as only one team can go up. The fact of the matter is we are a third of the way through the season and Guildford are still undefeated in all competitions except the FA Cup. They have beaten all teams around them and I hope that they win the league and can go up, the management are good people abd so are the players and they can play a bit as well. I think it is common place that when a team is top that other teams become envious. During a season you end up where you deserve to be and i am sure that Guildford will be playing at a higher level next season. Good Luck.....

I agree with FFox. I used to play for city and know the club is full of good people and there band of supporters from the uni are a great crack. When Scott Steel left I thought the club would go backwards, and it did for a time. I left the following pre-season because thenew management team were a joke.

I played against the current team last year in the cup and this pre-season and they are very physical, and are in your face with some great banta but to me that is part of the game. What stands out more is that they have some very good players and the fact that they are a very close knit team.

All the best to them.

is it true most of them are from the Croydon area??

I have seen this statement / question a lot on the forum regarding Guildford - another classic example of a put down, is it any different for the other top teams in the prem? Where has this imaginary postcode boundry come from where teams are looked down upon for having someone playing for them? I had never heard any team make comments about any other team until Guildford became competetive. I can confirm that they are not from Guildford, but i dont know why that matters. The team came together from being at Carshalton Athletic and Croydon Athletic and have followed the manager as they have a good relationship. Why if the manager takes over a new club that he has to keep the team that had struggled if he has far better players at his disposal. As proved this season the manager has built a team that with a bit of luck along the way will be champions.

the relevance is that i'm interested in weather these players at Guildford are relatively local players or not?

As i've said before. I dont really care if Chertsey pay their players millions of pounds a week! I dont care that Camberley have STOLEN most of Cove's players and i dont care if Guildfords players are all from Croydon!

Just wanted to know thats all.

So are they all generally from the croydon area? Are any of the players local??

As i am not a player or supporter of Guildford i am not sure, i only know where they played previously. Any Guildford posters could probably confirm this though.

i doubt any guildford supporters on here are from Guildford either. Most of them are tax dodgers spunking from the government by pretending to enhance their education by going to University and running up thousands of pounds of debt and then not being able to find a job that matches their qualifications!

JJ I think it is a relevant and interesting question.

As I saw it Guildford tried the route of having "local managers" in Scott Steele and Lloyd Wye and attracted the better local players with some additions of course and had a successful season. They were then banging their heads against a brick wall with a lack of training facilities, or a ground that would support promotion.

The current manager is I beleve from the " Croydon" area, so of course will recruit players that he knows from his home location.

The question is does it matter?

Would they get more support if a few local players were involved?

Perhaps somebody can compare the attendances?

Would the Spectrum be up to scratch for promotion, or would it mean a ground share?

I only have questions not answers!

I'm not sure anything has changed since that last successful season - and of course it's too late for a ground share which would have needed to have been in place already. Maybe VPCTFC has a better insight?
