James Lawson signs for Billericay

Recommended Posts

Former Southend United striker James Lawson has signed for Billericay Town from local rivals Concord.

Here's the link to the story, it would be great to hear your comments on the Echo website because we want to start carrying the views of fans of our non-league teams in the Echo's sport pages.

I think "Vox Pops" is the curse of modern media. A lot of uninformed, often bigotted, opinions that you can get from chatting up the pub. When you open a Newspaper or turn on the Radio you want something with a little more "Gravitas" than that. Radio 5 Live is the worst culprit. It's cheap, lazy journalism in my opinion.

Your welcome to print that JC NonLeague

Right on Rick! I've never figured out why the media think I give a toss about what some ill-informed cretin thinks on any given subject. The Football League Show is terrible for that too.

Like you say - cheap and lazy. Lord Reith would be spinning!

Nothing personal James. Thanks for all the support from The Echo.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I agree that the inane ramblings of the vocal minority often does reflect badly on the more informed footy fans. But, from my point of view, I just want to hear what fans of our non-league teams think about the what is happening at their clubs because I think that lends itself to more rounded coverage. We carry comments from Southend United fans and I just wanted to extend the same courtesy to our non-league clubs.

I will be at New Lodge tomorrow for the Concord game. You can always find me in the press gallery so feel free to come and say 'hello' or wring my neck as the case may be...

Great phrase that! Just about defines Internet Forums, where one or two "enthusiastic" posters can punch well above their weight and give a totally different impression to that held by the silent majority. At least with the print media you can Edit, I suppose.

So is Mr Lawson joining us or what? I can still see the announcement on our web-site:-
