3 MORE home points lost!

Recommended Posts

Yet again, we were well beaten by a side who played well together and who knew each other's strenghts and weaknessess.

As each game passes by, I get more and more convinced that the management simply do not have a clue. Their sheer stubborness in playing certain players when most fans can see they quite clearly aren't good enought, playing tacitcs that don't suit anyone (3 short strikers AGAIN!!!) and the management's total lack of dynamism in their reluctance to change this.

Nathan, are you talking about 'stubborness in playing certain players' yesterday or in general because yesterday, as options, we only had 1 out-field player on the bench not counting Logie who is injured and Gumbs and Lawford who at 40+ really shouldn't be anywhere near the bench.

As for 3 short strikers, I'm not so sure we did play 3 strikers because Sean Sonner, especially in the second half, spent most of his time down the left hand side either defending or in midfield.

Again, as for a big striker what options do we have in the squad? Simon Martin is the only big striker we have and when it comes to jumping for the ball Sean Sonner out-jumps him easily.

Reading Rebel, I think you've hit the nail on the head there. I wholeheartedly agree with your points and have been wondering that if you, me and a lot of other fans on here can see them, then why can't Bateman?

Going back to the game in hand, I simply cannot agree with what people are saying when they said we played well for the first half. For the first 15/20 minutes we were easily 2nd best and under huge amounts of pressure, from then you could quite clearly see that Rugby wanted it a whole lot more.

Then we began to play get back into the game, scored and for about 5 minutes showed what we were capable of (including our 2 dwarf forwards, who are obviously much too low on confidence 2 glourious chances!!!). Then we went back to crap, conceeded 2 in as many minutes, both of which came about when our "defence" (for want of a better word) simply stood still and watched them waltz through to score.

The rest as they say, is history.

What all this means is that the next three games are vital. We are at home to Burnham ( bottom of the league), away to NGU ( a decidedly average mid-table team still finding their feet at this level) and home to AFC Hayes ( perennial strugglers, struggling again). This is the ideal opportunity for Bateman to turn round the ship, get some confidence into the team, score a few goals and get some points.

For points from these games we MUST get. I would be happy with seven points, but less than six is really not acceptable. Three or less and I think Bateman would have little option but to offer his resignation. After all, if he cannot get something from these games, when can he get something.

Whilst Slough have not been getting the rub of the green in recent weeks, this does not lead on its own to the catastrophic slump we have seen. Bateman, in his programme notes, always bangs on about working hard on the training pitch to put things right, but as the saying goes - if you always do what you always did, you always get what you always got. To break this run we need some new ideas and some innovative thinking from somewhere. It's easy to manage when things are going well, it's when the going gets tough that we see what folk are really made of.

as usual a load of garbage is being spoken on here by certain contributors , our main problem is again when we go into panic mode we start playing the long ball, fine if we have tall forwards or a target man but we don,t, what do we do to fix this problem? well we can go and get some tall forwards , problem we don't have the funds for that , so what do we do well we play to our strengths, we keep the ball down on the ground and do short passes with players running and creating movement and support , looking for their team mates getting in good positions for passes and attacking the oppositions goal, the mid field need to be more restrained in tha they dont go head long into the attack without having a defensive plan, our midfield is not being overrun it is being left behind in the oppositions half something that often happens if you continually play the long ball, they either stop going so far forward or they get back quicker ( i have no time for players who walk back from the oppositions half when the oppositions attacking if they can't run then they need more training). and for the management team remeber you catch more flies with honey than vinegar, the rollickings are not working the dressing room atmosphere needs to be one of serenity even fergie is slowly learning that.

Slough.

Just a couple of points regarding your football club and Saturday's game.......

Thanks for club badge you GAVE young Sam when he went to purchase one. He had lost his money and the lady in the shop gave him the badge. That was great from you. (didn't know about that until we were on the bus home and I will reimburse you when we play next time).

Your team: Any neutral watching the first half certainly got there money's worth with both teams going for it. Threre was a twenty-thirty minute spell in the first half when we should have been 5 down but, thanks to luck, the post and our keeper it was only 1. On possession we just edged it and when the third went in for us it killed the game for you. The player that came on at the very end for you was well received by your supporters, what was that all about?
