5-a-side tournament

Hi,

We are potentially planning to host a 5 a side tournament during June 2011.

We have space for 12-14 pitches and the field area is in good condition, so we thought it made sense to explore this idea.

Few questions for everyone interested:

1) Would CCL sides be interested in entering 1, 2 or more sides in this competition?

2) Are there any other major 5-a-side tournaments in June that we should avoid clashing with?

The plan is to finalise the date within the next couple of weeks and then send invites out to all clubs.

Any feedback is much appreciated.

Regards,

Daniel

Hi Daniel

Is it just a mens tournament or are you going to include kids (which is where the big money is) ?

If it's mens only then the Camberley / Yorktown tournament is the main event in the area but I think that is normally a little later - Krooner could fill in the dates I'm sure

If you're including kids then there are many established tournaments around that time that each attract 100's of team entries - Clubs tend to go back to tournaments if they had a good experience the previous year

I always enter a team in the York town 5 a side but this has been cancelled for the past 2 years due to a volunteer shortage! Usually around 18th July.

Instead this year we entered a team in the Fleet spurs tournament which was on Sun 20th June! Good tournament and very well attended. Every local name from ccl prem and 1 were in attendance! Not sure they'll do it this year as Neil Baker has moved on and he was the driving force behind the tournament.

I would certainly enter a team!

Thanks for the feedback.

This would just be an adult tournament. Our affiliated youth football club, California FC, run a kids tournament in June. Last year they attracted 96 teams for a Saturday tournament and made a substantial amount of money. Hence our idea to run our own tournament!

JJ - Thanks for the info regarding the Fleet Spurs tournament, I'll contact them to see if they are planning to hold an event next year. Just out of interest, do you know how much the cost of entering a team was?

It was £40 to enter a team of up to 8 players. There were 18 teams involved.

3 groups of 6 with each team playing each other once. Top 2 went through to the knockouts with the 2 best 3rd placed teams making up the quarter finals.

Didnt feel like it was neccessary to bragg Brunty but now you mention it........

my team won the last York town 5 a side tournament and won this years Fleet spurs tournament aswell. dance%20(2).gif

Hopefully my players from that tournament will be happy to play again for my team although a few of them now play for Camberley so we'll have to see!!

Didnt comment as was out Saturday night and have only just recovered so not really had much time to get on here.

We dont have a fit striker in our team at the moment which has showed in our recent results. I may even be getting the call for target man tomorrow.

Whole team are struggling for form and the bad patch has well and truly sunk in. We felt that we had enough to beat Horley but yet again our final ball and shooting was hopeless! Horley prob deserved more than a point with the way they finished the game but we would have been annoyed with no points after such a good 1st half.

If i do score tomorrow it will be for my daughter as she's 5 tomorrow. She's not happy daddy playing footy but as you all know.....i'm a pro.....footy comes 1st !

Hopefully the Barbie bike, complete with stabilisers and pink tassles will soften the blow! (stabilisers are for me)

Will look forward to meeting NICE GUY tomorrow! My last and only goal at Molesey was a worldy so prob too much to ask for another!
