Encouraging Youngsters

Twist&Shout

Recommended Posts

Just want to make a point about encouraging young players..

It was nice to see courtney playing tonight (he did not have the best of games - but remember he is 16)..

When he played v Thamesmead I thought it was absolutely brilliant the encouragement cloke was giving him..everytime he cleared the ball, everytime he made a good challenge cloke would say 'well played lad' or 'superb boy, first class'..

Tonight was different..the way Groombridge spoke to courtney tonight was a disgrace..and I quote:

'Your f'ing slow'

'He's beating you every f'ing time'

You DO NOT speak to a 16 year old making only his second first team appearance..you need to give him encouragement like cloke did..

Now I'm not having a pop at groombridge as a player because I think he is decent..but the way he spoke to a young (16 year old) promnising player was a disgrace and not the way it should be..

I know groombridge is only 21/22 (?? Correct me if wrong) but he should know better

I think courtney looked very good v thamesmead, tonight he did look out of his depth at some stages but I still think he is a decent player..I think he needs years to be honest..give him 1 and a half to 2 years (and a few first team cameo appearances) and I think he will be worthy of a first team place week in week out..and remember in 2 years he will still only be just 18

Your right he is still only 16 I'm yet to see him in the first team , but for reserves he certainly has the height and stature. 2 years he can be a quality player. Let's not forget Curtis didn't make a real impact when he was signed and he was 18/19 at the time. Those 'cameo' appearances like you say I feel could be vital in his development

Both Courtney and Tom Peachey will be future centre halves at first team level, if not at Margate, and both are young, need time to develop in the reserves.

Nice to see IOC willing to play youngsters well done Ian, for doing this.

Centre halves like goalkeepers, need more time to learn there trade,as we have seen in the development of Curtis.

Unfortunate how Groombridge was talking to Courtney. Also i don't suppose the constant stream of orders from our assistant (constantly playing them on side)

manager helps either, confused the hell out of me and i didn't have Conference South players bearing down on me constantly.

One thing that also confuses the hell out of me is how you look at a players, but play Them out of position.Dan Hugh,s is a winger, pace and crossing are his game (as with Aaron Quain) one down each side second half would have done us all a FAVOUR. Also as Jay Saunders is no longer taking part in the next 3 competitive games, why was he still on after half time. Surely Dan Langiano should have been given is chance as Jay's position is also Lang's. we were after all 2-0 down.

As Chelsea boy say'sTom and Courtney(and the rest) are the future not yet the present.

I thought overall the youngsters tried hard against a more experienced side.

Would have preferred to have seen Cloke at the back last night as i feel he could nurse Counrtney into a decent centre back.

The potential is there for all to see.

Was at the game last and with such a small crowd can always here players more i think what you are look at is with ian barking orders how slow the back line was in getting out how well orders from the dugout are pass between players on the pitch i just played wellsie interview with ian after the game and his comments about listen and answers with courtney shame no more cup games left to see him get another run out
