We played away to AFC Wimbledon last season. They had lower than normal prices for that so fair play to them. I think it was £6 for adults. There were only 410 people there (on a bitterly cold night that went to E.T. & pens and never seemed to end) but that was still more than for the final which attracted just 404 spectators. I don't think anyone's under the illusion that clubs such as AFC Wimbledon, Crystal Palace, Woking etc. take this cup that seriously but use it as a run out for fringe / squad players. You can understand that but I think it's a shame as the Surrey Senior Cup has a proud history. In 1949 the final between Wimbledon & Tooting & Mitcham had over 15000 present. Even the 2006 final had 3700 but in the last four years crowds have been pitiful.

It's come to the stage where even some teams at step 5 treat the county cup as just another thing to be got out of the way which annoys me.

I'm sure you'll get a half-decent crowd if you price it right Chris. My personal view is that you should just charge your normal price rather than trying to cash in as that extra couple of quid may put people off. AFC have quite a few genuine supporters who support the club and aren't snobbish about who turns out to represent their club - but only at the right price!

From a reserve team managers point of view it is good to be in these cups as it gives a few guys a chance to see where they are in their development and for the managers to see what they have available to them. It is also good if you have a big squad to enable players that don't get regular matches or that are new to a the club a chance to show what they have.

Hopefully we at Hampton will apply to be involved in a few more cup competitions next season.

CC GREAT DRAW FOR COLLIERS. NOT SURE IF IT WILL BE AFC 1ST TEAM (TRS TO CONFIRM) BUT WILL PROBABLY BE A MIX OF FEW 1ST TEAMERS, SQUAD AND RESERVE PLAYERS NONETHELESS, I WILL BE IN ATTENDANCE AND HOPE THEIR IS A DECENT CROWD TO BOOT.

HEARD ''RUMOURS'' THAT WORD AGAIN THAT YOUR STRIKER JOSEPH HAS LEFT COLLIERS ? IF SO, WHERE'S HE GONE TO AND WILL BE A SHAME AS A DECENT STRIKER AT CCL LEVEL.

Obviously I cannot comment on what discussions took place yesterday between our club and AFCW and I don't know how, or if, the gate money is shared etc re the SSC.

What I do know is that we will incur extra work and time in hosting the match, which we welcome, as I am sure all CCL clubs aspire to a higher level of football and, therefore, bigger gates and administration logistical issues.

We will not be "ripping anyone off" and that is all I can say until the club meets tomorrow.

I can name numerous Ryman clubs who have reduced the admission prices for some SSC matches but then many of these have large annual sponsorship deals that go a long way to assuaging costs, one off or otherwise.

What I can state, categorically, is that I produce the matchday programme and that printing sufficient programmes, that are up to date and worth reading, will take me about 10 hours to compile, print and collate.

Hope this helps any doubters!

CHEERS CC. NOT RUMOURS AFTER ALL ! CROYDON ATHLETIC IN RYMAN PREMIER ... AM SURPRISED, BUT UNDERSTANDING CROYDONS PLIGHT I SEE REASON SO GOOD LUCK TO STEFAN.

I'VE SEEN COLLIERS TWICE THIS SEASON AND HAVE TO SAY I AM NOT SURPRISED BECAUSE THE 2 STRIKERS COLLIERS HAD EMBOLO (?) AND JOSEPH WERE A GOOD PAIR AND REASON WHY COLLIERS ARE HAVING A GOOD SEASON SO FAR. IT'S NO SURPRISE THAT SOONER OR LATER ONE OR EVEN BOTH WILL BE TEMPTED ELSEWHERE THAT'S FOOTBALL UNFORTUNATELY, BUT IF COLLIERS ARE WISE, THEY SHOULD ARRANGE A DEAL WITH CROYDON ATH. FOR A DUAL REGISTRATION SO JOSEPH CAN STILL PLAY FOR COLLIERS IF NEEDED, BUT THIS COULD DEEM UNFAIR ON THE OTHER PLAYERS AT COLLIERS.

Staefan has a friend (in our youth and reserves last season) at CAFC and wanted to test himself. As a club we would never stop anyone moving on to better themselves.

Mario Embalo has done well this season thus far as has Emmanuel Quarshie who has replaced Stefan now. We have two good youth team strikers who are getting their opportunities too. Youth and suburban league football is vital at this level and we are competitive at both levels this season. We are a bit up and down at present but heavier pitches will not help our style of football. We are doing our best (as many clubs are at this level) given their limited resources and capital. we will continue to scour the local football scene for new talent and bring them on accordingly.coffee%20(2).gif

Chris

must say when i was the man in middle at merstham for your reserves, it was the best i have seen them play for a number of years...some good young players

Always good to hear those sort of comments Tony. Thank you.

Steve Turner is doing a fine job; an unsung hero in non-league football IMHO :applaus:

Well I don't pick the team NG, but would expect it to be fringe first teamers needing 'game time' mixed with promising ressies. To be fair to Terry Brown, he started with Kedwell and Main at Chipstead last season and Main picked up a knee injury that kept him out for a while. Ironically Mainy will probably feature in this game as he now seems to be a fringe first teamer! Crowd? Probably 250-300 at a guess.

CC - Someone's posted on our messageboard that CWU want to switch the game to Kingsmeadow. Any truth in that?

First I've heard of that TRS!!!
