A TRIP TO WEMBLEY.

The home of English Football, yours truly made the trek across London to Vale Farm last Saturday,16 miles as the Crow flies,oh i wish I was a crow.Left home at 12.45pm to catch the 1.04pm train from East Croydon, conveniently cancelled.Still never mind the 1.24 pm train to Clapham Junction would get my connection to Wembley Central, delayed by 4 mins on arrival, which became 6,then 8,then 10mins.On arrival at Clapham Junction a quick dash to platform 16,were I saw my train exiting on time.Sods Law some may say.Still not to be detrred Plan B. swung into operation,Train to Victoria,Underground to Euston, overground to Wembley Central, where I arrived at 2.55pm.Now to catch a bus, easier said than done, the inhabitants of Wembley do not know how to queue,or speak English for that matter, there you enter the Bus by any door that opens, especially the back one, because you do not have to pay.Still only 4 stops,5 mins max.But this was not to be as it was Diwali Celebration Day,Funfairs,Parades, etc.On arrival at the ground Dorking were 2-0 down, and looked as though they had been on the shant all night, worse was to follow, the Wembley no.8 sold the Ref. a pup, when he was fairly tackled by the Dorking player just outside the box, with the loudest scream and wailing ever heard,Smudge was straight on phone to 999,Ambulance please Vale Farm, footballer broke every bone in his Leg,but miracalously, the said player rose from the ground, and played the rest of the game sprinting around like Linford Christie.CHEATING I call it, but that is the way the game is going.Spoke to the Ref after the game a Mr.W Ingram,he had an excellent game,no flashing of cards,a chat here and their to the Players. He was in total control for 89 minutes, just the 1 mistake, even Smudge makes mistakes now and again. But the free kick awarded for that players play acting turned into a goal 3-0 Wembley which soon turned into 4-0 at half time.Dorking did improve marginally 2nd half, and got it back to 4-1 with a more spirited display, but Wembley have a class payer in 37 year old Master Bates, belies his age.Quote of the day from the Wembley keeper 'Never thought I would ever see anyone more Rotund than me about the Linesman' who to be fair was a Big Lump, and slow to boot.Game ended 5-1 Wembley, pitch immaculate, food and drinks good quality, but turn out in bar after game by both Teams very poor.Wembley safe,Dorking will struggle to avoid Relegation on this showing.

12.45pm train????cheesy%20%282%29.gif

I am usually in a pub in the opponents town by then....unless their clubhouse has Sky?

Over to you Camberley Town???coffee%20%282%29.gif

You'll want The Standard in Frimley Road near the football ground on Saturday then Chris. Or any of the town centre pubs.

We ditched Sky as it's too expensive (£600 a month). It was worthwhile as we had the Celtic supporters watching all their games at the club but they've decamped to the rugby club across the road so Sky isn't cost-effective anymore. We're stuck with the plain old BBC. I didn't realise they don't always do the half time scores on the Beeb these days. Still, apart from the mighty 'Dale, they're all over-paid primma donnas in the league so I don't really care how they get on.

I gather you have to press the red button, VPCTFC, to get the BBC version of Soccer Saturday from 2ish through to when it starts on BBC1 towards full time. So i'm told anyway, as i'm obviously always at a game somewhere :yay:

Is it really £600 per month for $ky Sports? Unbelievable Jeff!

Sky's prices are based on your rateable value if you're a commercial premises and they won't negotiate. I don't know why not. Not very good business sense if you ask me. Some pubs pay £2000+ a month hence there are so many places showing it illegally. Only problem with that is all it takes is one person to grass you up and you're shagged. It's not worth the risk in my view. There's a well known case going through the European Courts now which may decide it's legal to pay a company in, for instance, Greece £70 a month to get the same coverage. The Premier League are fighting it big time as it'd mean a collapse in the amount of tv money they get and could change the whole face of the league forever.

Thanks for the tip re the pub.

This has affected a pub near me too.

You would think the FA and county FA's would lobby for something similar to that which is available to cricket clubs via the ECB?
