If you have played the same or more games for the 1st team as you have for the reserves, you cannot play in the Surrey Premier Cup. So, we have a player who has played five 1st team games for us (most as a substitute) but has played seven for the reserves, so he will play tonight. Another lad has played the same amount of games, so he cannot play as he is still deemed to be a 1st team player. We also have one lad who played for the reserves on Saturday - his first and only game - but he cannot play as you need to be signed on at least 7 days and he only signed at the weekend.

We were told last season that the same amount of games means a player can play in the Premier Cup.

The wording of the rules is terrible in my opinion which is why I ask our secretary to check with Surrey FA. Their reply was that the rules had been rewritten to make them clearer (they must have been a right mess before) and that equal games meant the player can play. Also zero games for either side (which aren't mentioned) mean they can play as long as they were registered in time.

Even after knowing that, I still think the wording is wrong. Another point of note - the rules only mentions CCL Division 1 players as eligible from first teams who enter the cup. The FA invite teams like Merton into it these days so, in theory, none of their players are eligible.

I'll see if we can get a rewrite of the rules for next season.

And just in case anyone was wondering - we haven't got any players on equal games at the moment so it's not an issue for us tonight. It's just something I think needs to be cleared up.

BLIMEY I WISH I HADN'T ASKED NOW ..... !!!

BLIMEY I WISH I HADN'T ASKED NOW ..... !!!

That's not all - there's an eligibility rule that caught out a couple of the big boys in the Senior Cup a couple of seasons ago. I think it was Tooting & Mitcham and Kingstonian who played each other in the semi. You have to be registered for 28 days to play in the semi or final rather than the 7 days for the earlier rounds. A player or two played quite legitimately in the quarter final which had been delayed due to the weather but weren't eligible for the semi due to the 28 day rule. Both teams got kicked out and Merstham got reinstated and went on to beat Whyteleafe in the final. It was something like that anyway.

Dare I mention the gate money and official's fees rules in the Surrey cups as well Nicey?

Senior Cup - gate money shared (FA Cup / Vase style), home team pay the officials.

Premier Cup - gate money kept by the home team, official's fees split between the two clubs.

All other cups (except the quarter finals of the Sunday Senior Cup) - gate money kept by the home team, away team pays the officials.

Apart from in semis and the final where the FA sort it out.

Who'd be a secretary?

I see Frimley Green have been re-instated in the Surrey Premier Cup having lost to you Manager50. Did you fall foul of these rules ?
