Soham town vs Slough town

Recommended Posts

sounds like we have had a fair few chances but just not taking them. unfortunately can you afford to not beat teams who are near the bottom with very few points even if its away from home. lets hope we come back out and stick a few in the net.

POSITIVITY!!! COME ON YOU REBELS!!!

It is still 1-0 with around 10 minutes to go

subs:

Bateman off Logie on

Sonner off Sinclair on

Byrne off Thomas on

apparently we are playing well but cant beat the opposition keeper and we also look vulnerable on the counter.

We have also picked up a couple of yellow cards.

What a poor result that is. Mid-table obscurity is looming now unless things pick up quickly.

Having said this, I want to preempt any talk of replacing the management, which I'm sure will crop up. If there's anything that will stop us recovering, it's a changing of the guard and subsequent wholesale changes in playing staff. It's very much up to Steve, Dave et al to rescue the situation and get us challenging for promotion again, and I support them in this.

well well well its a shocker of a result but given our form im not totally surprised

just going off twitter we seem to have created a fair few chances but like has been our problem for a good 2 months or so our finishing is the opposite of composed

gotta agree no point changing the management as that would result in this season pretty much having to be written off again as like Matt said the playing staff would change quite a lot i'd imagine

not really sure where we go from here other than just hope we can see this through and stop the free falling soon

Yes, a shocking result but not as bad a performance as some recently. We had loads of the ball and had lots of chances but a combination of poor finishing, good goalkeeping and last-ditch defending stopped us grabbing a goal. I felt a bit sorry for the players today - it just never ran for them and they looked as gutted at the end as everyone else.

We are very much the masters of our own downfall sometimes though. The Soham penalty was a challenge that didn't need to be made as the player was going away from goal and we clearly haven't learned about picking up needless yellow cards. Burnell for a trip as the player was running away from him. Coyne for kicking the ball away. Logie (I think) for clattering late into a player. Murphy for wrestling with their player when he'd giveen away a free kick. All totally avoidable. That will come back and bite us in a big way when the card count gets totted up.

Nice of Anthony Thomas to tell me and Radders to "f*** off" too. What a classy guy he's proving himself to be.

So then, a 4 hour round trip on the coach, I think that I am entitled to my own opinions on this forum, even if it upsets the players...

What the hell is going on with our players and management? Every week we hear about this great dressing room atmosphere but it never seems to transfer to the pitch. There is so little communication on the pitch! We have so many good players, but they do not function as a team. The Soham keeper only had 2 or 3 proper saves to make today.

The discipline is also becoming an issue. Every decision is met by moaning, and there are so many needless cards (there were some of those today).

Apparently Bateman knew about the 'wide' pitch at Soham...so why did we start out with 4-3-3 instead of 4-4-2, which surely would offer more width?

If the players cannot take the criticism they are in the wrong job, but something is definately not right!! It's all being going generally downhill since the Erith cup game, there is no consistancy. Fair play to Soham, they played very well and could well have had 2, 3 or even 4 goals to their name.

Total Frustration today - We had some good chances ..and so they did too...however they counter attacked while Slough were pressing

for an equaliser ...In fact cant remember if Ricky had to make any saves today ! I might be wrong on that because I was looking to the heavens for divine intervention !

Their Keeper made 2 outstanding saves in the second half... to frustrate the supporters and players of Slough ! Good luck to Soham they worked

their socks off ..but most teams do against us ...and at the final whistle again another team had won the world cup !

Our players were gutted and thats a good sign ...imo ...shows they were as frustrated...

roll on 3 points .... PLEASE !wall.gif

Ian Dont be surprised at anything Anthony Thomas does Just go to our messageboards on the homepage and click on Southern Fans just below the Rebels Forum then just scroll down to Anthony Thomas

It was quite funny really. All we did was shout "NOOO" after he'd tried a shot from 35 yards when another player was alongside him and he could have passed the ball. His argument that we didn't know what we were talking about was slightly weakened by the fact his shot cleared the stand by at least 10 yards and it took the kids 5 minutes to find the ball. He knows best though!

Didn't go today, and a good thing to as it seems that yet again we were pants against a side who on paper are no match for us.

It seems that the folly of having 2 dwarfs up front has been exposed yet again. And we STILL can't keep a clean sheet!!!!!!!!!

Losing to a side who were bottom (who apparently having 3 first team players out injured) is nothing short of disgraceful. Serious questions now need to be asked, and I include everyone from top to bottom.

Firstly, I'd like to say that there is certainly no lack of effort on the players part, they are all giving 100%.

One of our problems is that we are playing as a bunch of individuals and getting turned over by teams with less talent but who play as a team.

I keep saying this every week but we have a group of players who are far too similar, mainly in the midfield department.

We also have forwards who are very lightweight.

Where's the big, quick centre forward who cant fend off some tackles and generally cause havoc to opposing defenders?

Danny Burnell will score goals but most of the time he's being used as a target man because there aint nobody else, he needs a big man to feed off.

Until we get these things right, we will, more often than not, get beat by so called 'lesser teams' and midfield obscurity beckons.

My mistake I meant 'can fend off some tackles'.

The Soham number 10 was awesome today. Time after time the keeper would take goal kicks aiming for him and he'd bring the ball down, fend off challenges and run at our defence. There was one occasion where he got as far as the edge of our box before we managed to get a tackle in.

Again, I think he was a quick, powerful runner, something we just haven't got.

In a nutshell, I think Steve Bateman has built a team of talented individuals.

Glad I had over things on as it looks like it was a completely wasted trip to a team at the bottom of the leauge.

I agree with Matt that it is too early to shout for Batemans head - In my book he has the rest of the games in this calender year to get us into the top third. However his recent recruitment of players is looking questionable, with Antony Thomas who has no respect for Slough fans in either his commitment on the field or verbally. Also what was the point of bringing back Craig O'Conner to then a few weeks later let him go?

It just looks like he has a good phone book but little in management skills.

Not picking up three points at Soham raises a lot of questions about where we are going this season!

It puts it more in perspective when you realize that this was Sohams first home win this season It does make you wonder what kind of Slough team will turn up next week for the home game with Rugby Rugby have taken two points from Hitchen already and (with Hitchen) are unbeaten away from home I notice our landlords beat Leighton at Holloways Park today.
