We have been here before - Southall, Neasden Foundation.

Look at Feltham, had 10 put past them today, but I bet the put a side out next week.

Being the manager of the "wronged" team, I was obviously extremely disappointed to be told on Friday that the game was off, and the reasons for this. We all get used to the odd game being cancelled on the day due to the weather, so to find out Friday afternoon was at least a positive thing. We were able to stick a few lads back in the reserves and organise training for about 16 of the squad locally, plus got a chance to watch our reserves play Colliers Wood. We actually had a keeper, two defenders, three midfield players and a striker missing for the game Saturday, due to suspensions, injury and holiday. The two suspended lads will now miss the next game, but a couple of the others will now be available, so win some lose some. We would have still taken a strong side to the game and were hoping to continue our good run, rather than slip down the table due to not playing. If the game is played, we will be asked to travel to Croydon on a Wednesday night, which is obviously not ideal. Having said that, they came to us on a Tuesday earlier this season so, again, win some lose some. My club will be making a presentation to the CCL in an effort to get the points awarded to us as we do feel that this is the correct punishment - except as Purple Tram said in exceptional cases - and we will see what they say. I agree with certain views about teams pulling out of games due to lack of vital players and then having them back when it is replayed, and the various leagues around the country seem to have different views on this. We also have instances - this season already - where a team has had points deducted for indiscretions, but the opponents don't get anything. I am sure Bookham would have welcomed the points from the game they lost, and I see that in the Surrey Elite there are teams who have received the points deducted, or at least that is how I read the league table this weekend. So, there are many areas that seem to need looking into and the rules certainly differ from league to league.

However, I have no idea why Croydon were unable to field a side, and that is why I find it hard to criticise them too heavily, as I am a great believer in working on known facts and not what we percieve to be the case. The club itself has a decent history and the committee people I have met in the games we have played all seem decent and honest, so although we are not at all happy with the game being played, we will trust the CCL to make the correct decision based on the facts put to them. I do find it hard to believe that side cannot get a first team out at any given time, especially at home on a Saturday, but let's see what the outcome is before we judge.

We had a lad running late for the reserve game Saturday and the initial view is - he's late, so will be fined and dropped. Turns out he had a car accident on the way and fortunately his Dad was able to contact us to tell us he was in hospital with a neck injury prior to the game. It is quite likely that the normal stories about why he was not around would have done the rounds but, with the facts being known, his absence was put into perspective.

So, let's hope Croydon sort themselves out and carry on this season, and we don't have any more cases like this again, as it does make the league look a bit second rate when this does happen and we certainly do not want that when most of us would like the CCL to start pushing the powers that be to consider a second promotion place.

Interesting subject, though!

M50 - you're right that the Surrey Elite, and other leagues locally, nearly always give the points to the team not at fault. There is a slight difference in that the Surrey Elite hasn't yet been granted official National League System status by the FA so they're not bound by the same rules as the leagues that are part of the system. Having said that, the rules as they are now written in the NLS mean that it is possible to award the points to the innocent team in my view.

The two games in the Surrey Elite this season that have had points deducted / added were both because of ineligible players but last season there were a few no shows and all the games were awarded to the team not at fault.

The Middlesex League is even more ruthless when it comes to ineligible players. Not only do they award the game to the team not at fault but they also deduct a furthur three points from the guilty team. Sporting Hackney effectively lost 6 points this season by playing an ineligible player in their 1-0 win over Willesden Constantine.

NICE GUY - PT already stated above he wasn't going to discuss the issues on a public forum and the CCL only meet once a month so doubtful it's reached them yet. Your best bet is probably to ring Dixon directly - his mobile number is on the CCL Official site. You can then let all the other interested parties know what he says smilewinkgrin.gif
